Component does a good job but HDMI will deliver the best video and audio.

Componet cables support 1080p in games but not in bluray movies (Bluray movies look unbelievable in 1080p)

Actually, Component cables do support 1080p. It's just a matter of whether or not your tv supports 1080p.

I'm not entirely sure...but I think PS2 and PS3 Component cables are interchangable. I think you can use your PS2 component cables on your PS3 for your desired HD playback. So if my info is correct, then logic says 'yes' to your question....you can use PS3 component cables for your PS2.

Yes, they are the exact same cable. All the av cables are compatible all the way back to the ps1.

Do I have to buy bothComponent Cable and HDMI to get the 1080p for games and movies or could I just buy the HDMI and that's it?

Component and HDMI support 1080p, it's just that HDMI isone unified signal and Component is five separate signals. Your HDTV may not support 1080p through the component connectors; if it has a HDMI socket, use that. Otherwise you aren't missing anything with your picture quality.

buy ps2 component cables since they are much cheaper and give you the same great quality. PS2 and PS3 are interchangeable. Its just a strategy made by the developers to make you think that a PS3 cable is better than PS2 cables by raising the price of the PS3 ones. Nothings different between the two so just buy the cheaper one.

I would get the HDMI since it maintains the ditial signal from your PS3 to TV. Component is still an analog signal. So if you want the most from your HD equipment, HDMI is the way to go since it keeps the signal uncompressed digital. You dont need sony brand since the HDMI port is universal. I bought some good HDMI 1.3a cables for $15.00 online from monoprice.com

That's strange because the Sony brand component cables are about $20.00 anywhere around here in retail stores even Gamespot. So if you paid that much for third party cables you spent to much. You may want to go to the PS3 on-line store and check some prices there.
