I just came home for the holidays and left my HD tv back in college. Im trying to use my ps3 but it isnt working. Does it have to do with the fact that Im trying to connect it using the standard av cables?

Yeah because your PS3 saves the output type so if you were using HDMI it scans for that.
Just hold the power button for 10 seconds and it will reset the settings then you should be all good.

Hold the power button, you will hear the initial beep when it turns on, keep holding it and when it beeps a second time it will reset your output to standard.
