PS3 controller not working?

So I bought a new "wireless" one....and when it says on the screen push the PS button, I do and nothing happens. Can someone who knows tell me what the deal is? Thanks.

The battery may need to be charged up for the first time. Leave it plugged in for a couple hours.

yer mate jsut try and pug it in on the usb it should work i had the same prob the day i brout my ps3 and spent a few hours tryign to wounder y and it was me felt liek a right prat :L

How else is the controller supposed to know which PS3 it's with? Many different models out.

Follow these steps. 1) Get ps3 controller 2)Plug one end of the USB cable to the controller and the other end to the ps3. 3) Press the Playstation button. 4) Done.Fightingfan

and hope it's not a counterfit that got blocked in the new firmware update
