Those shouldn't The reason the Xbox fans causes RROD is because that intercooler fan is mounted right behind the 360's fans. It causes a traffic jam of air. Those fans there are mounted where fans arent. I'm assuming they act as intake fans so it could probably help.

depends, theres lots of things you have to take into consideration. 60gb and 40gb/80gb have different intake vents. on the 60gb, the side and back vents are output and only the front is intake, but on the 40/80 the side and front are intake and the back is where the hot air leaves. then you gotta do a little research on the intercooler your getting because if im correct, most intercoolers were designed for the 60gb. this means the one in your picture would suck air out. that would work if you have a 60gb ps3, but it wouldnt work on a 40/80 because you would get a fan trying to take air away from the ps3 while the ps3 is trying to intake air. if you do buy a 60gb intercooler, you could probably take it apart and flip the fans around for it to work on a 40/80.

by the way for anyone who wants to know, the ps3 only has 1 fan and thats a huge 160mm fan right in the middle of the console. that fan takes care of intake and outputting air.

back to the real question, common sense would tell you that an intercooler would obviously help. theres nothing wrong with moving more air, but the most common argument would be that the fan draws power from the console which is bad. true, it could be bad but theres a way around that if you dont want to take the risk. just buy a 5v usb wall adapter and plug your intercooler into that and problem solved.

YLOD is not something that happens anywhere near RROD. Mine is 60 gig which is worse as far as air circulation and I had that since launch. YLOD is a myth and while every console in every generation has problems, the ps3 is not known for this at all.

Now in regards to the fan, there should be an intercooler that has its own power adapter which is best. Again I doubt it is needed, but it is your choice. I play games, watch marathon animes and dvd tv shows since launch. no problems at all.

If you really want to prevent YLOD, then you should buy a water cooling kit. It'll be a huge pain if to install if you don't know what you're doing. And it'll void the warantee.

YLOD is HDD failure, not an indication of overheating, which would be the blinking red light. People get this confused a lot.

Is that true that the YLOD is just a hard drive failure ? That is SWEET !! A hard drive swap is a breeze.

I think he means the YLOD epidemic is a myth. The YLOD itself is very real, but the fact that it's so widespread like the RROD as people make it out to be, is the mythical part.

My warranty is already out, and this water cooling kit sounds so awesome but i think i must find someone who can install it [QUOTE="RotaryRX7"]YLOD is HDD failure, not an indication of overheating, which would be the blinking red light. People get this confused a lot.

as long as your ps3 isn't in a tight spotand nothing is blocking its little vent things, then I don't think the chances of it screwing up are very big at all.

I really hate that term 'ylod', its exaggerated, why not just call it hard drive failure instead of a catchy abbreviation...

Sorry for that, but the increasing number of people getting it got me worried, if it's a hard drive failure then it isn't much of an issue

I think you have been misinformed the ylod problem is not hdd problem i know first hand and so does my friend we both have had our 60gb console fail on us due to ylod. This is what happens during play, it shutdown, beep 3 times, and flashing red light tried turning back on got green then amber then flashing red light with 3 beeps. So it was an issue with 60 gb consoles my daughters 60gb randomly shuts down during some games replaced hard drive reapplied thermal paste still didn't solve her problem and my friends console did what mine did if you ask me it was that the first gen console produce just way to much heat for there own good i have another friend with a 60gb and his is still running strong. I look at it this way it is what it is some people wont have any problems some just might better to be safe than sorry like i am. Do what you can to prevent heat from becoming an issue. I think during manufacturing that maybe not all consoles recieved enough or to much thermal compound and that caused some of the ylod issues and others were just mishandled consoles.

The YLOD is not a myth. It's a serious problem that is happening to a LOT of 60GB PS3s mostly. Mine died with a YLOD two days ago and i know quite some people that had the same problem. Read my last blog to see what has been happening to 60GB PS3s in my family. It's ridiculous.
