By accident I dropped one of my ps3 game discs on the floor and the side edge of the disc hit the floor and it made a tiny dent. Will this affect the gameplay?

Well, a "dent" isn't really a scratch. By definition, blu-ray discs should be extremely scratch-resistant.

I know this firsthand as I once had a loose PS3 game that bounced around inside its case. By the time I had opened it up, I had expected it to be scratched to holy hell (any DVD disc would've been), but to my surprise ... not the tiniest, visible scratch anywhere on the disc.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work. So long as it doesn't develop into something more serious (say, a crack) then you should be good to go.
