PS3 - Doesn't Play Ps2 Games??

I heard that ps3's do not play ps2 games - is this true?

i know if u had a ps3 u would only want to play ps3 games but if it did play ps2 games u could be able to sell your ps2?

My ps3 plays ps2 games.

The only SKU that doesn't play PS2 games is the 40gb (only exists in Europe for now).

Depends on the model. 40GB - NO PS2 games work, 60GB - 95+ percent work (maybe more), 80 GB - I have heard 85% work.janzaruk

what about the 20gb model .... Mine plays PS2 and PS1 games Norg

Well, certain PS3 do play older generation.

40 GiG does not, 60 GiG does and 80 GiG does as well.

I'd suggest 60 GB if you wish to play PS/PS2 titles as it has an EE chip build in to support almost every game.

If you can't find it, 80 GiG will play a lot of PS2 games but not as many as 60 GiG since it doesn't have EE chip.

Yes, its a first party game,all first party games work on the 80gb model and so do all the third party games that really matter FF, MGS etc

I asked because I was at playstation.com Compatibility status and saw some problems with GT4.

I just got a PS3 80GB in USA 11-10-07 and Gran Turismo 4 (GT4) for PS2 is NOT recognized, and does NOT play at all. It didn't play on the older system software, and I tried to upgrade the software (2.0) in hopes it would work, but it did not work at all.

Anybody know where I can get a PS3 60GB ?
