hey guys, quick question

i use wireless for my ps3 connectio and majority of the time i onyl have about 50% signal, which is terrible to play online with,

if i use a ethernet cable strait from the back of the ps3 to my wireless router or just the standard modem, will the signal increase significantly???

my ps3 is about 20m from my modem,

Ps where do you plug the ethernet cable into the back of the ps3 is it any port?

and where abotus do you plug it in into the modem,? on the back of my wireless modem i have ports 1 , 2 ,3 free..

thank you in advanced!

You will find a wired cable is faster (no conversion from air to signal) and is much reliable as well (no signal lost). You can use any port on your router/cable modem. You will need to buy a Ethernet cable (they can work up-to around 100 meters) which will plug into the back of your PS3. You should be able to get a Ethernet fairly cheap, so dont pay some game store tons for it, they are all the same (try and get a Cat 5 or 5e class cable).

Just jumpin in here. I thought about doing the same thing, but I have two questions: 1) will this affect any other wireless devices in my house, like my laptop and others and 2) do I need to change any settings on my Playstation or does it automatically reconize the cable connection?

it shouldnt effect anything apart from the device you put on a cable. You will need to tell your PS3 to use a wired cable in the setup menus (which is fair quick and easy to do).

Yeah, if you're currently using wireless and you plug in an ethernet cable, you'll have to switch to that in the settings - the PS3 won't do it automatically, for some bizarre reason. I actually went two weeks with a 'wired' PS3 before I realized that my still slow-ass downloads were due to it not even using the ethernet cable.

Yes, wired connection is infinitely superior to wireless. It may or may not always be faster (connection speeds) but it will be way more consistent. Wireless can fluctuate and could get really annoying if you're playing online. Wired is the way to go.
