So my ps3 got the YLoD and i took it all apart and fixed it once and worked perfectly for say 2 months. i was playing again one night so it did it again and i proceeded to take it all apart and fix it myself and did. but when i plugged it in the fan kicked on and in steps ran faster and faster. i'm 100% positive i reconnected everything and put it all back together right. so i'm just curious as to what could make the fan run so hard. and FYI i did replace the thermal compound on the CPU and GPU so thats not it

3 days before my ps3 died with ylod. my fans kicked on and i thought a jet was right above my house. but it was my ps3 lol. i hurried up and shut it off. next day i turned it on and no signs or problems at all. 2 nights later ylod:cry:

local repair man said he couldnt fix it because the dust melted on the cpu and gpu and they were fried.

You might want to replace the silacone that transfers heat away from the hardware. Try to find some Artic Silver to do this.

Clean the dust form the fan and scrape off all of the thermal compound from your CPU and GPU and reapply decent stuff..

The PS3 increases the fan when the CPU/GPU get hot, so in your case it sounds like its not working..

Oink!

Yea use the Arctic Cooling MX-3 Thermal Compound for your PS3. This is what I use even though my PS3 60gb never went down on me, I still took it apart to clean the inside and replace the Sony Original Thermal Compound with the Arctic MX-3. My 60gb is running just like it just came out the box when I first got it.

Using Arctic Silver would cost Sony less than a buck, and it would solve 50% of YLOD issues.
