Ok so this is how it goes, i bought a ps3 and a 32" High Definition television, the maximum resolution the tv goes up too is 1080i. One day my friend calls me up and is like "U wanna bring ya ps3 round" and i was like "Yer ...obviously".

Now the thing is his television was Full HD 1080p so i changed the settings on my ps3 to suit the situation, when i brought the ps3 back to my place my television is displaying 1080p with no problems( and 1080p shows up as an option and works perfectly every time. And i know this for a fact because when i change it back down to 1080i, the picture is slightly pasty and doesnt look as good.

Anybody know, or has any idea what just happened?? Im not complaining because my TV is running in 1080p hahaha =]

1080p and 1080i = same quality in detail and everything, one is 30 fps one is 60 fps .... read up its all in your head buddy. And maybe your TV does run 1080p ... if so thats awesome what a deal right XD. But truely the only time your going to see a difference between 1080p and 1080i is high movement scenes in movies or games or TV shows such as car chases etc. And it will jsut look more smooth in terms of how it plays. BUt other than that the actual detail quality is identical as it is overlaying in alternating 30fps in 1080i and 60 frames every second in 1080p the resolution for each is identical. Think of it this way. Having a computer monitor at 1940x1080 at 60hz refresh rate ... thats 1080p now 1080i is 1940x1080 at 30hz or 30fps ... see what i mean. The resolutions are identical, so your actual quality shouldnt change.

I have a Panasonic 42" plasma that does the same thing, and it is only 720p/1080i.

No difference in picture at all. Why? Because the TV can not display 1080p but can receive the 1080p signal.
