They're trying to do it with trophies. But I'm not entirely sure if it'll be as successful.

In an interview with Gametrailers.com they said they are planning a system for points as well as the trophies from Home.

I don't like the idea. People get into the achievement points and buy games they wouldn't have bought just because they want a higher gamerscore because people look at how high it is to judge your skill, which just doesn't work most of the time. I like the idea of getting achievements, but I don't think that points should be given for them. I loved seeing the "Achievement Unlocked" on the 360, but when my gamerscore got to 30000+ everyone's first comment to me was "Dang, your gamerscore is high!" and that gets annoying. I think they could do achievements and people can view what achievements you have gotten, but I don't like putting points to them, because different devs will have way different points values. There were games on the 360 like King Kong that took 5 hours to get all1000 points, then games like Ridge Racer were near impossible to do it on. Your accomplishments should speak for themselves without the points.

I agree, trophies arent a very good idea tbh, it seems like too much effort to go and look at someones trophy room rather that just looking at a score on their profile.

gamerscores and achievements are for clearly immature people. There's no need for a PS3 gamerscore.

I'm not really sure what it does besides convince you to play games you don't truly want to. If PS3 has a "gamerscore", mine's gonna suck and I really don't care. lol

People want to know how good you are at video games. If you suck, they'll know not to pick you on their team when they're having a deathmatch on Killzone 2.

Yea but how does a Gamerscore mean I suck? For instance, say in vegas I don't play the single player and only play online. I could have 5 kill streak and 10 kill streak and the most kills in a Team Sharpshooter award and be really good at the game, but that only gives me like 60 points or something. So people are gonna say oh he only has 60 points, he must suck.

Makes no sense.

The problem I have with gamer scores is that it'll sell bad games when those games should forever stay on shelves to teach developers, to make good products.
