Disclaimer: I am not bashing the PS3 nor do I care about "fanboyism"

I bought a PS3 the other weak in order to enjoy some of the exclusives I have been hearing about, but something just doesn't feel right whenever I play my PS3. Perhaps it's the controller which causes my wrist to ache or I just need to "break it in" because it just doesn't seem as smooth as xbox games or interface. Anyone else have this problem after playing xbox first, if so did you just keep going at it until it felt more "natural?" I would really like to experience the greatness that everyone is talking about.

Hate the xbox controller; its weird and awkward. PS3 has better graphics, smoother frame rates, better exclusives, and just overall more user friendly. The xmb menu so much easier than the xbox dashboard. Not sure why your not adjusting to its amazingness, can't speak for you

It seemed natural to me. Had no problems. Played a few games that first night and got on the Playstation Store and downloaded a few demos and a game. Happy HD gamer ever since.

I gamed with PS systems as my primary console since the very first, so I was well adjusted to the size and feel of the controllers. However, after recently spending a lot of time with the other big console I can definitely tell you the PS3's controller feels very awkward and even somewhat uncomfortable until you get readjusted to using it again. It takes much more time to adjust to, too. I still haven't gotten to where I can switch back and forth from one console to the other without feeling like I'm holding some alien object.

I should probably add that I have extremely large hands, so...

So it's pretty much the controller that's the only problem? It just takes time getting used to it I guess. First time playing a PlayStation console? Because all of the controllers are practically the same.

I had a really hard time adjusting to the PS3 after I gave up my 360. I just stuck it out and avoided playing anything online until I felt more comfortable doing so.

I get the same way when i try to play my brothers xbox, i only play it when select games come out, so it definitely feels awkward at first. Give it time, its just your brain/hands re-adjusting to the new controller.

Not really, i felt that it was a smoother transition for me, menus are easier to navigate and just the overall feel and flow of how the system works was better IMO. Give it time, it'll grow on you

It's the controller, most likely - its sticks are quite loose in comparison and the triggers are awful. If you're playing a racing or FPS game on the PS3, those take the most adjustment because they're the most poorly suited for the controller. The interface shouldn't take long to get used to - it's not spectacular but it's functional and it mostly makes sense (until you step into the PS Store, at least). Also get used to 'trophies syncing.'

Out of both systems I still prefer the PS3's controller better. I like the smaller more "snugly" fitting controller, the 360's just feels a bit too too sloppy, especially considering how much I dislike the Dpad on it. I have a harder time getting used to switching to a 360's controller than vise-versa.

I guess it takes getting used to. You asked how you could make it seem more "natural", you could buy a third party controller that is shaped like an xbox controller, the afterglow controllers come to mind, they light up and have it set up like the 360 controller, but I don't know if the quality is there since I've never owned one.

I like the ps3 better for overall gaming, 90% of my games are on ps3, but I prefer the xbox controller...minus the terrible d-pad.

i always thought the xbox had awkward controls, that being said i did grow up on the snes/psx control style so after roughly 20 years of it, it seems pretty natural.

As I thought, just have to stick it out. It is strange though since my first system was a PS1 and I was primarily a PS2 gamer last gen. Perhaps I will buy one of those cross-contoller adapters if I never become comfortable enough. Thanks for the responses!

i had the same issue but opposite, when i played 360 it just felt wrong on my wrists and i ended up getting kinks in my fingers but you grow use to it when you play it for a while. so you will get use to the ps3 controller, its just you are useto a different design so you need to adapt to it. i kinda grew up on PS systems so i was always use to the controller

I got an xbox360 a year before i got my ps3, the adjustment from the big xbox controller to the smaller ps3 one was awkward for a while but then i started to prefer the ps3 controller cuz it was smaller and lighter, and the analog sticks are perfect for fighting games.

It may take u a while to adjust to the ps3 controller, the console is great and the exclusives line-up is solid.

You just need to break it in. Get Uncharted and Uncharted 2, start playing and you'll forget that you're on a console, the experience will absorb you.

Good luck!

I do agree that when changing from a 360 controller to a PS3 controller is weird but dont worry youll get use to it, and notice some games are actually better with a ps3 controller.

I've been a PS/Nintendo gamer for the majority of my life, Xbox controllers just feel strange, i don't know why people like having their hands full when they play games.. You just gotta get used to it. and you'll be better off in the end.

You'll get used to it. Consider purchasing the trigger (buttons) attachment for the PS3. I've had them since Thursday and they make a huge difference while playing shooters/racing games.

phantom_blade66

Oh, shut uuupp.. stoopid fanboys.... both systems are allright...

I bought my xbox over 2 years ago... and PS3 Slim about more than half a year ago... Just for the exclusives too. :)
And I have to say I had the same problem.

Analog sticks and D-pad are better placed on xbox controller. And at first I couldn't get used to it.

When left analog and right analog were placed inside >< my thumbs had a contact. and that was weird :P
OR, the R2 and R1 buttons feels really cheap and after holding it for a longer time in a race... it just slipped of my finger... and they has a big dead zone.. not like in xbox's controllers.

Overall I got used to them after a month of playing or more. (Wasn't playing on it that much ,too tho.)

I bought 360 before I bought PS3 but never really had any problems with the controllers on any of em, I was used to the Playstation controller cause I have both a PS1 and PS2, and the 360 controller isn't that different from the old Xbox controller

I'm more of a PC guy....I'd rather play with a mouse and keyboard lol, but I will say the Xbox controller is more comfortable than PS3. That said I think the PS3 though all around is a better console (This is just my Opinion). Better exclusives, Free online play, Better Dashboard IMO, and better graphics. It just depends on who you ask.

you need to adjust w/ the ps3 controller. the layout is not the same so your hands might not feel comfortable holding it first. i felt the same way when i got my ps3 after intensive use of my 360.

I like the XMB better, at least it's not cluttered with ads. Although I liked the older XBOX 360 blade system until they turned it into what it is now.

yep i have one of those. works flawlessly with my wired 360 controller. of course, you still need to use the ps3 controller for games that require motion control(killzone 2/3 only game i can think of)

I felt the same way. It's still a bit awkward when I use the PS3 controller. It just feels really small and I don't like the way the triggers are set up for shooting. Also, it's not that user friendly. It's a pain trying to communicate with your friends via text. Hopefully they update PSN with party chat soon. Then I would be more than happy to become a PS+ member.

I don't have any problems switching between the two...a controller is a controller IMO. They aren't that different.

There may be some small variations in weight and size/shape...but nothing that takes long to get used to if you've played games most your life.

PS3 interface is way more organized , can't stand 360's dashboard, that said , I've had my ps3 for longer , maybe that's why , even though people seem to agree with me on this.Plus you're being a sissy for saying your wrists hurt after using the ps3 controller , that's a first.

The only thing I can say about the DualShock 3 controller is that it is slightly less comfortable for playing First person Shooter games. The Xbox 360 controller is a tab better in this regard.

Awkward could be a good way to state that.
