I just got my samsung 6187 hdtv and i know is a good tv but seems like some of the ps3 game like rfom and motor storm look pretty bad on it. Unlike xbox, all games look better due to the fact that all game on it upscale it to 1080p.

So does the ps3 do any upscale or all resolution depends on the game?

I think resolutions depend on the game. Some games are made to take advantage of the scaler chip while others can only play in certain resolutions.

I will say that Oblivion, Motorstorm, Resistance, and Dark Kingdom all look excellent on my Samsung 32 inch LCD tv via HDMI and it only supports 720p and 1080i.

Just how are you connecting the PS3 because if you are saying the likes of Motorstorm look crap on it then something is wrong either with your eyes or your not connected properly

No joke, but my eyes is close to wearing glasses but still, for example when i play rainbow six, virtual tennis, even shrek the third on xobx, graphic seems always better than my ps3 games, besides nba 2007 on ps3 which is unbeatable.

I connect my ps3 with hdim cable btw, but i select all the resolution on the ps3 setup which is 480i/p, 720p, 1080i/p just incase, should i select just 1080p? since ps3 do upscale like you said?

you should select the 720 and 1080 resolutions because if you have the lower resolutions selected I dont think the PS3 will even attempt the upscale from SD. But this wont affect your RFOM or Motorstorm because they both run in 720p. Last i checked the PS3 didnt upscale from 720 to 1080.

a) Slow down and type legible English.

b) If the graphics always look better on the Xbox360, then perhaps you should stick with that system. I find it hard to believe you own both systems, both copies of the multiplat games, and spend all your time comparing the visual quality between the two.

c) Your resolution should be set at the highest that your TV will allow. Either 1080i or 1080p for best results.

Right there was where I stopped taking him seriously.  The graphics in NBA '07 were overly shiny and the player models just  looked straight up awkward.

Excuse my typing then, whos said i own both copie for each system and why would i stick with xbox when i paid $600 dollar for ps3?

Im not saying that xbox have better graphic, is just that it output better resolution for some reason, so here i am taking advantage of the forum for asking a simple question.

Anywayz, When i try to change my display settings it wont let me uncheck 480p, so i have both 480p and 1080p selected and im pretty sure rfom and motor storm is doing 480p. I think i'll know 1080p when i see it, like the main menu of the ps3 looks hd but just not in the game.

The problem is you can't uncheck the 480p(on your TV?), you need to make sure you select the 1080p on both the TV and your PS3, then you'll be amazed by the full extend of the PS3's graphics. If you can't uncheck the 480p you should try and reinstall the HDMI cable, and then try selecting 1080p on the TV's setup and the PS3. If this don't work your TV is probably broke.

Ok, So im thinking that you can uncheck 480p on your set?

I just figure this out by pressing the info button on the tv it will tell me the current resolution displaying.

yup, i still have 480p and 1080p selected, dont know why it wont let me uncheck 480. so any idea?

I bought the hdmi cable from wal-mart cuz it said is made for ps3 for is tempting but it also said its hdmi 1.3 but my tv is 1.2.

when i try all the demos which is grand turismo, nba, rfom, full auto, motor storm and the only game that display in 720x480 (480) is rfom and motor storm.

Just keep all of them checked. RFOM and Motorstorm both play in 720p. If you don't have 720p checked, RFOM and Motorstorm will be downgraded to 480p because they cannot be upscaled to 1080p.

Finally, didnt know what was i thinking leaving the 720 uncheck. But why does sony claims that ps3 games are next gen hd, which it is only when is in full 1080p but when microsoft can upscale all games to 1080p and it look almost the same?

I know that sony been on realease not too long ago but do you guys think that all game will be in full 1080p in the next 6 months or they will come out with a update that will upscale all the games like xbox?

How hard is it for developers to make their games in 1080p full hd?

Don't set up the PS3 to the highest resolution setting--put it at your TV's NATIVE RESOLUTION. If your TV's native resolution is 1080p, then do that. If it is 720p, then set that as the PS3's highest resolution. There's no need to set it at a resolution higher than your TV can actually display--the TV will convert all signals to display in its native resolution anyway.

only the elite will do full 1080p HD, so 360 games now don't do more than 1080i (if any)

I know what you mean but there is true hd(using hdmi and depends on the game) but there is upconverting also like the xbox.

But what was asking is when will they put ALL the games in full hd resolution for the ps3?
