I got a PS3 as a gift (not brand new, bought on ebay) and I plugged it in using HDMI cable to my 42" LCD (Toshiba). My TV supports up to 720p image. I'm having lots of problems with its image quality (which basicly - sucks). 1) Screen tearing - this is very annoying 2) Videos seems to be freezing or frame-skipping so the videos are not smooth as they should be. 3) The PS3 is currently set to output 1080i image (even though I have 720p panel) - If I change the output to 720p the picture becomes a little bit grainy. Is it me? Is it the cable? Is it the PS3 device? What's going on? Shouldn't it provide an amazing video quality?

Make sure you reset the connection by holding down the front power button for five seconds until you hear the beep. Then try it again.

That's your problem.

I've had the same problems on a Toshiba before.

nope, no artifacting.... and I don't have another cable, I'd like to try another solution before buying a new cable (it's still an expense...). The grainy image is the worst - I have it even on the main menu no dark areas. How come 1080i output looks better than 720p output on a panel which support only up to 720p? Is it possible because my panel is 1366x768 screen resolution?

it's all about the cables.. if you are using the yellow, white, red cable that came with the system those are just standard..

get some component cables..

or hdmi cable

right now i am playing in 480i with the standard cables because my 1080p tv broke.. but when i hook up using the component cables which work fine on my 60gig but on the 80gig have like a green tint and grainy..

so it really could be the cables, i suggest you do more research..

Well, theres hdmi cables on amazon for as little as 2 or 3 dollars... if you have a different hdmi port, try that, maybe its you're port that's messed up
