ps. (edit) Do any of the games even support 720i? x.x
A 1080p HDTV over 40". Plasma if possible. Highest contrast ratio you can find. D_Znuhtz
Exactly what this guy said. And yes 720p and LCD are "fine" like someone else said - but if you want the graphics to be uber cool as you said...
Get a 1080p Plasma with high contrast.
Check out the Panasonic TH-42PZ700U online. It's a high quality 42" 1080p Plasma that you can find for around $1400 online. They have bigger brothers also. Here's where I found the best price and most reliable service: www.electroniqueplus.com

1080p is not needed. it's severly overrated this gen. some simple games are good in 1080P the rest of the bigger games in 1080P have less detailed textures orr bad framerate.
720P is the hotspot this gen.

First I've owned both LCD and Plasma - both 720p and 1080p...
All games look better at 1080p IMO - they all have more detail than 720p, not to mention you have a greater view of the game world (which gives you a HUGE advantage in MP games as you can see your opponents further away and off to the sides than you can at 720p). I've never experienced lag even when games are upscaled to 1080p - and native 1080p looks amazing. Most of the new360 games are 1080p native now, and as you all are noticing most of the new PS3 games are now coming 1080p native as well. Warhawk and Lair are good examples.
Plasma has zero lag - Plasma has a less than 1ms refresh rate where as LCD has between 6 and 12ms response - so if you see lag it will be on an LCD. Ghosting doesn't happen on Plasma - only on LCD. That's why Plasma's cost so much more generally than LCD's - the technology is considered superior, just generally more expensive to manufacture therefore not as popular in the mass market due to higher prices. Companies like Panasonic have now dropped the prices of their Plasma's to be competitive with LCD's - and Panasonic makes both technologies, but promotes the advantages of Plasma.
Plasma is well known to have superior black levels and more realistic coloring than LCD - that's not even a debatable bullet point as any videophile will agree.
The only "potential" issue is that with Plasma you can get burn in if you leave an image paused for too long on the screen. But no longer will just playing games cause burn in and it only occurs if you leave the image paused for more than like a half an hour - easy solution - turn the TV off if you pause the game for more than a few minutes.
Also the life expectancy of Plasma has greatly incresed for example the Panasonic I listed has 100,000 hour half life - that means in around 45 years if you use it 6 hours a day it will be half as bright. I don't know about you - but I wouldn't keep any TV for 10 years - let alone 45 years. So the half life argument is sort of a moot point.
Ultimately it is up to the individual user - just go to Best Buy and look at the monitors. Oh and by the way check out the Magnolia HiFi room, which is where the ultra high end stuff is - and guess what...
it's 90% Plasma's.

u are correct sir...
but ur not gonna get 100,000 hours out of a plasma..
more so 50-60 thousand hours realisticly..then depends wat modes u run it in aswell..
i sell these things so i have to know most of them back to front and then we get reps from the companies telling us more..
but most of what u said is right
btw..plasma these days..cheaper...42" cheaper...50 Inch Muuuuuuch cheaper...
getting a 1080P set tho..cost around about the same LCD or Plasma...
never under estimate samsung.
panasonic are great...
pionneer are falling a lil behind..
Hitachi pwn!...new 1080P series coming out soon...and there non 1080 P have an ALIS panel (higher resolutions)
Sony Suck (only LCDs)...lol there not bad but meh..im not paying that much extra for that lil bit more...
OK...I think I'll have to look into a 1080p Plasma. All I know is my brother has a plasma and Hot Shots Golf 4 lags so maybe it's another issue. How do 6 and 12ms LCDs fair when it comes to timed button press games like with Guitar Hero?
But yeah, I guess if Plasma is completely responsive I can start looking into those, I just always dismissed them because of the one I've seen in action.

Thank you.
Also Panasonic did have a rating of 60,000 hours but just increased it to 100,000 hour rating for their new models, including the one I listed. They just upped this rating in August. Here is one link:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/08/panasonics-plasma-half-brightness-rating-upped-to-100-000-hours/
That doesn't mean I am disagreeing with you though because sometimes (as we know) the manufacturers will inflate things a little. :)
Still according to Panasonic these are now 100,000 half brightness.
Thanks again - it's glad to hear the opinion of someone from within the A/V industry.
[QUOTE="kelkimble2k4"]I have an Samsung 26inch LCD T.V with HDMI/DVI in and it says it supports 720P and 1080i is it good?Gue1
if the response time is below 7 then it's pretty good.
Response time is 8ms.
