hey guys I have a 160 GB slim and the old BC 80 GB FAT, but my fat 80 gb is dead and I want to sell it cuz of the YLOD, but I cant turn it on.....so in order to protect my information can I stick my old 80 gb harddrive into my new 160 GB slim which ive owned and used for around 2 months, I heard the 80 gb will be wiped clean? is this true and if it is should I worry about my 160 GB harddrive being taken out and being put back in the same console? would that erase anything???

If you put the old HD into the new slim it will want to format it. You will lose everything on it if you do that. Taking out the slim HD and putting it back in shouldn't cause any problems.

If you want to save your data on the old HD try to get your old PS3 to start up even if it's just for a couple of hours. Then use the Back-up feature to move all your data from the old PS3 to the new one. I did this when my I thought my old fat PS3 was going to die; it only takes a few hours.

If that's not possible, try calling sony, maybe you can send them the HD and they could do the back-up, for a fee I bet.
