ok i am thinking of getting a ps3 60gig inthe next few months, and my question is if i run out of room, will i be able to use a usb external hdd, hooking it up to the ps3, some people have told me yes, but not all will work with it. so my question to you guys is do you know of any external hdds, that will work for the ps3???

y not just save the time and just get like a 200gb sata hdd and not even worry about it that way

what like a laptop harddrive? or just a regular one, and that wont void the warranty on the ps3?

yeah a laptop hdd. no it wont void the warranty, the PS3 manual even tells u how to swap it out. but they say to get the hdd at 5400 rpms to keep from over heating. although i think 7200 rpms now a days dont suffer that problem. should stick with what sony says though just to be sure. (and internal hdds are way cheaper than externals anyways so u could save a bit on one, hope that helps)

Any USB harddrive will work, but it has to FAT formatted. It can't use the Windows format NTFS. I have a 500gb and 160gb attached to my PS3 with no problems, two different brands. One is an Adcom, the other I made myself. Just make sure if you go USB it has it's own power supply and doesn't rely on the USB power. Second when you format it you will want to use a program like Swiss Knife instead of Windows. Windows will limit the size of the HD and won't format the entire drive.
