Okay, the only things I have on my PS3 are about 600 mb worth of music, 1 gb worth of saved games, and 600 mb of downloaded arcade games. My hdd space left is at 20 gb. Why is it this low? And is there any way to find out everything thats on my hdd, including system items? Any help would be appreciated.

well, you start out with like 34 or 35 gigs because 5 gigs or so goto the OS. If you have any game installs ( I.E DMC 4) that eats up alot of space. So if you do, thats the reason why.

I tend to stream my media from my PC rather then put it on the PS3 to save space.

It may be worth doing some basic maintenance and delete unnecessary game files/saves and demos.

My media server screws with my psn connection for some reason. I dont have any demos either. I have Oblivion goty, warhawk, r6v 2, uncharted, mlb 2k7, resistance, dark sector, cod 4 and fight night 3. Do any of those games have large installs or patches that could diminish so much space?

You can check the file sizes yourself by pressing triangle and viewing the details (game -> game files), if there are any games that you are not going to play for a while then delete the game data (but keep the gamesaves)

Not sure how else to help you other then getting a new HDD, admittedly I to am getting short on space (15/55gig) and I'm looking to get a nice fast 250g HDD

unsure about a few of those(for i havent played them) but as far as i know the installing is optional with most games. I dont think any of those require installing actually(unless you got warhawk off of the PSN which is less than a gig). Lately the capcom games that have came out were mandatory installs. But if you didnt manually install any of those games, there must be another reason. I guess take emeritus up on his advice.

Well Oblivion GOTY has a 5 GB buffer. Uncharted is 2 GB IIRC. Resistance has around 500 MB in updates. Not sure about the other games...

System updates take up space on the hard drive too. I think the latest update 2.20 keeps like 4gigs or so aside for blu-ray stuff.
