Has anyone ever heard of a PS3's HMDI output going out? 2 days ago I turned on my Playstation and there was no picture, I spent an hour and a half tearing out all my home theater equipment, testing all the HDMI inputs on my tv, changing HDMI cables. My 360 elite works on all the HDMI inputs, but not the PS3? I finally had to switch it over to Component Video to get it going again, but still no HDMI and no 1080p. This sucks balls! I emailed sony about it and havent heard back yet, I just wanted to see if you guys ever heard of anything like it?

yeah every once in a while my hdmi will go out. in order to fix it i have had to unplug and re-plug(?) my hdmi back into my tv, then press and hold the restart button on the ps3 so it resets the video settings. you will get ur picture and your 1080p back. hope this works for you!

thanks dude, I'll give it a shot when I go home, I've become so spoiled on 1080p that I think 1080i is for poor folk.

Ok now this happened to me today as well.

I've read a few other threads within the last two weeks when googling other sites so apparently this is becoming a common problem. I am using HDMI for a few months now on the PS3. Finished watching some regular TV, switch to my HDMI input on my tv to pull up my PS3 and nothing... just a blank black picture. I dug out my component cables and did a video settings reboot, it works fine in 1080p on those. I switch back to HDMI, do another video settings reboot, HDMI again has no picture. I figured the HDMI cable maybe went bad but when I connected it to my laptop and tv... it worked fine.

Hi,

Same as happened to me.

Worked brilliantly for over 1 month. Turned it on one day and no picture using HDMI. Tried three different cables all with the same result. The three cables all work on the same television with my Sky HD box. Component and AV cables work fine. Phoned Sony and they sent a replacement box - to my astonishment - Same Problem!

This seems to indicate that the PS3 is not at fault? However I have no other problems with equipment connected through HDMI on my television.

Has anyone got any idea what can be causing this?

I feel that the HDMI on the back of the PS3 is touchy at times. I have had problems with mine. The way to fix it unplug the cable from the back of the ps3 and plug it back in..It should work after that.

I don't believe you!!! If true, which I doubt. All you do is turn off the PS3 and then hold down the power button for 7 seconds to reset the video output and then it will redetect your input automatically and work fine again.

It will occasionally go out on me, but I just shut the TV off and once I turn it back on it's fine.
