I recently bought the 80 gb PS3-MGS4 bundle and a Sony 720p HDTV (KDL-26M4000). I have the system hooked up with Sony's PS3 HDMI cables. I've noticed that the edges of my screen sometimes get cut off when I transition between games/from a game back to the PS3 system screen.

For example, say I load a bluray movie, watch it for a bit, and then go back to the system screen. Then I pop in Soul Calibur 4 and let it autoboot. For some reason the resolution gets messed up (I think), because some of the words start running off the screen. Then if I press the HOME button, the clock time is also cut off (I only see the hour and not the minutes). If I exit out of the game, things go back to normal... and then when I start the game up again things seem to be fine too.

Do any of you know why this may be happening? When I first hooked up the TV, the PS3 autodetected the resolution to 1080i, but I manually disabled 1080i and set it to 720p. I just want to make sure nothing's wrong with my TV, because if there is, I can still take it back within 14 days.

Thanks for your help -

I have a similar problem, my screen goes black when; in between going from a game to the XMB, or from the XMB to a DVD (and vice versa) I have to turn off my tv and back on again

this happens on both of my TV's; a 50 inch Samsung PD, and a 19 inch Goodmans LD (both HD TV's 1080i)

Have you tried to see if the problem is also in 1080i, and not just in 720p? Also, if I may ask, why did you forego displaying in 1080i in the first place?

Well, to (maybe) answer TC's question: Maybe you're displaying in 1080i when you should be in 720p?

What does the TV have for stretch/scale settings? I know mine's got a couple of HDMI-specific ones like 'normal' and 'native,' which you can use to fit the full resolution if it doesn't quite fit. I don't know why some sources do that, though, but I've seen it happen when the TV incorrectly detects a particular resolution over HDMI.

so it turns out there's an option on my tv to auto-detect the size of the screen.... turning the auto-detect off seems to solve the problem.

thanks for everyone who helped -
