If you have a VGA plug you can buy something called the X2VGA 2.
You can connect your ps3 to the box with component cables and then use the vga cable to your monitor and it will be in HD. I had the same problem and it was either this or SD gaming.

^if you do buy it make sure you do this first-> set your ps3 to use component and 720p or 1080 while the green component connector is plugged to the yellow AV port of a normal tv, it will turn black and then you disconnect it and plug it to the box and your monitor and you are good to go.leke
Well, i dont really want to buy anything, is there a way for me t connet the HDMI to the ps3 and the DVI to my graphics card and view it on my monitor?
well the newer vid cards come with hdmi slots and newer monitors also have a standard hdmi slot. i think you might be sol unless you know how to combined dvi and hdmi

Yes. However, you would still buy something.

what is it?
I dont think HDCP is the problem. I have been researching this for a while and I think people just say you need HDCP because of word of mouth. What I mean is that all of these people have just read or heard this somewhere and havent tried it for themselves.
Anyway to my point, I am using a Westinghouse L1975NW 19" and it does NOT support HDCP. It works fine with my ps3, which is at 720p. I got a black screen at first too. What you have to do is reset the connection by turing the system on from standby and holding the power button until you hear a second beep. If that doesn't work you can try to connect component/compisite cables, to a regular tv, along with your HDMI to DVI, to your monitor. Then turn the system one and change the settings to output through HDMI. I hope this helped. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

So - Does it work for games on standard monitors and just not movie playback? Reason I ask is I have a NON HDCP compliant monitor (Samsung 940BW) and really would like to hook it up to my PS3 with just a HDMI>DVI cable and work on the audio challenge afterwards. Thoughts?
[Edit] - If the 720p requirement for games is of any importance, the game in question I am looking at or concerned with does state its HD output is indeed 720p.

Would a HDMI to DVI then a DVI to VGA adaptor work to connect a PS3 to a non- HDCP monitor. My monitor is a Philips 170B5 17" LCD monitor.
If not is there anything that is relatively inexpensive that would do the job. Nothing like Xvga2 or HD Fury and if there is nothing else, which one is the better choice.
Cheers
[QUOTE="Darthmatt"]You can buy a HDMI to DVI cable at monoprice.com for under $20. But, DVI wont carry an audio signal so you'l have to figure out a solution for that too.azzezino
I have that problem and any suggestions you can give me are welcome.
If you use an HDMI to DVI adaptor, leave the composite video/audio cable that shipped with your PS3 plugged in and just use the audio from there. I've got a similiar setup with HDMI to DVI adaptor going out to my 65" Mitsubishi TV, and I'm using the optical audio cable out running into my surround audio reciever. It works great.
If you do it like this, you will have to go into the system settings and select your video output device, and also select your audio output device separately.

I had thought about that, but I don't want to use my receiver (it's too far away from the monitor). Are there any speakers out there that I could just plug the audio cable directly?I had thought about that, but I don't want to use my receiver (it's too far away from the monitor). you will be limited to stereo only then. But sure, just use the original RCA cable that comes with the PS3 and use a RCA to mini stereo converter to hook up w/ a PC speaker sets. Just go to Radioshack and you will get all the connector you need.
to nsguj, unfortunately, it's up to the hardware developer to decide if they want to support certain format. HDMI and DVI both are similarly spec and I have yet to see a HDMI device not to support HDMI-DVI connector yet. VGA however requires a D to A converter in the path, so quick answer to this question is no HDMI-DVI-VGA conversion. It is possible to get an external converter box though.

Yes it can be done. I did it but it took me 2 nights of fustration to figure it out. And you will also need to buy a little box called the X2VGA. Is it worth the hassle... NO. Just save up and buy a LCD that has HDCP and try to get one with hdmi. It is just easier that way.
I have a quick question. Does the HD Fury Gamer Edition Work for NON-HDCP monitors?
I know it sais it works for Non-HDCP sources but on the Q&A forums it said that you needed to bUY a HDCP stripper. CAn any one confirm that you don'r need the HDCP stripper?
Thanx in advanced...!

Im using the same monitor as the above and it works great. Problem is I share the monitor with my PC and I hate having to unhook the vga cable just to play my PS3. Is there any way to switch from vga to dvi mode without having to unhook the vga cable?Â
