Sony will add the backward compatibility with a new firmware and this super audio is only for a 5.1 or more audio system.
Dude are you from Greece?
Yes, they said that they will add PS2 emulation through firmware update (which will be free) and the list with the games that can be played will be small but they'll add more games with updates.
I have to know if that dude is from Greece
But what that 'Fully Greek mate" means ? He has it in his sig!
I'm from greece so i thought i found a fellow greek gamer
I know , many greek people are living there, have you ever visit Greece , can you speak any greek words ?

Dear TC.
Firstly do keep in mind that this Hard Disk space issue shouldnt be a problem when buying a PS3 as it uses a 2.5" normale SATA hard disk.Found in our laptops and some PCs.it can be taken as high as 200+ GB.So forget about that getting a 80gig model would be just a waste of money.
Secondly there isnt much difference in the 40GB,60GB and 80GB models. But theres hell lot of difference between the 20GB and the rest.So it would be best to never get a 20GB model. The production of 60GB model has been stopped. So your out of luck with the PS2 compatibilty thing.(Do keep in mind that 60 GB was the only PROPER model to run all PS2 games because unlike 80GB it wasnt PS2 emulation.)
I personally would recomend you to go for 40GB GB model. As its the most simple model out there. Also the 60/80 GB also have been known to have heating issues. So be carefull with your choice.Heres a simple chart comparing four models.hope this post helps you.

Can you support this info with a source?Yes, they said that they will add PS2 emulation through firmware update (which will be free) and the list with the games that can be played will be small but they'll add more games with updates.

well kind sir the first paragraph means nothing to me coz i dont know what it means.. however i looked at the chart you linked and that 80 gig is the 'american' version i gather coz the one released in aus according to the specs ive researched are EXCACTLY like the 40 gig just double the HD size and nothing more... sony tends to screw us here down under....
So the only difference then with the 40 and 80 (our one) is possible heating issues?
Also is it difficult to install a HD?
OH and by the way the 80gig is the same price as the 40 , i think they are discontinuing the 40 down here.campzor
"So the only difference then with the 40 and 80 (our one) is possible heating issue?"
If what you are saying is correct than i guess only thing we can worry of is overheating.BTW do check out other forums and any other sources of info.In my experience i have noticed that the MOST unbalanced PS3 model is 80gb.Because it tends to screw alot.I think you better do some research before buying it and make sure that your safe to go.
"Also is it difficult to install a HD?"
No,VERY EASY.Its given inside Sonys user manuals,so you can follow their instructions. If you still dont understand it from there i would recommend you to try youtube. The good news is that it DOES NOT void warranty.

Yes soon when the stock of 40gbs model finishes the production of 40 gb models will be stopped.Because they are introducing new 100+ GB bundles in the market.

I would like a source as well. As far as I know, Sony doesn't plan on doing anything of the sort.
so lesner87 u would recommend me get the 40gig ( before the discontinue them ) and just upgrade the HD to like 100+ ?
Its just soo hard to pick cause i dont know much about these things , and i havent read anywhere that WE will be getting 100+ versions.. but maybecampzor
Sh**.Damn my very long post got deleted.Anyways i`ll make it short and simple.Sony isnt killing the 40GB anymore instead they are gonna finish the 80GB models,to introduce the all new 120/160GB models. Now you have got two choices.Either to wait for the new models (120/160GB) to come out or to buy a 40GB model and upgrade its hard drive to 150GB.I would recommend you to go for the 40GIG model because i doubt that they`ill add something entirely new(except the accessories ofcourse)in the upcoming models.Accessories can be added later onwards.
there wont be a 120gb model, now the 80gb is out ,and in octomber the new 160gb model will come out.noone has backwards compability
i am waiting for the 160gb to come out.cause it will come with uncharted and pain and 70e of free downloads for 450e!!
(a re palikare kai ellinas kai suikoden 2 avatar u rock!)
As you may know by now... a new ps3 80gig has come out in stores in Australia.
I want to go purchase a ps3 but im not quite sure what to get. I have heard that they have stopped making the 60gig versions , so no more ps2 compatibility which isnt a problem but i have read that the 80 gig excludes 2 usb ports.. (keep in mind i have no idea about specs... and stuff) so what excactly does that mean? Also it doesnt have a memory card reader or Super Audio CD support so what excactly does that mean? I cant use a memory card or something and what excactly does the SUper AUdio CD support do?
These removed features are just what are bugging me.. thnx in advance.campzor
I thought the 80g PS3 was essentially the same as the European 60g. As far as I am aware only the Americans and the Japanese got hardware backwards compatibility.
so lesner87 u would recommend me get the 40gig ( before the discontinue them ) and just upgrade the HD to like 100+ ?if the current 40gb and the new 80gb cost the same, then get the 80gb, if the 40gb is cheaper by $60+ get that one because you can upgrade it to 120gb to 160gb for the $60
