the answer is no, the intercooler as matter of fact does not extend your PS3's life but makes it shorter.

i dont have a ps3, but everything i read says ps3 is pretty good on the overheating issue ( and yes coolers add a significant amount of extra noise)

When I got my PS3 I really thought the system was going to melt or something, but after the first month playing many hours a day and nothing happened you start to have confidence on the system. Now I have my PS3 for 3 months and I can say that is a marvelous piece of hardware.

If I were you I wouldn't get it, the system is engineered to resist all that heat.

The intercooler doesnt make it any cooler and its ugly and loud. I have my PS3 in a well ventilated area in a room that is air conditioned which helps quite a bit.

Hes right all the intercooler does is screw up the airflow inside the PS3 and eventually kills it.

The worst thing a person could do is add a cooler to the PS3 because it does more damage than good, besides the ps3's insides stay cool when it's allowed to disapate heat the way it was designed to. The area around the console get's warmer than the console does.
