Just wondering, well my PS3's hard drive isn't even half filled up but I plan for the future(why I got the PS3 in the first place:D) and I'm just wondering what some of you techies out there think of and external and internal hard drive. Any pros and cons of each, I know they certainly have to have some. And aside from all that what size should I get. Got and 80gb right now but I don't want to force a whole 500gb on the PS3 either. Also for people who have swapped out a hard drive, any model recommendations or brands. All help appreciated!:)

I put this one in my PS3 a while back and it works great. It's pretty easy to swap out but make sure to back up your save data on a USB Flash Drive and be very careful with unscrewing the screws on the tray that holds the PS3's HD (don't strip them).

I bought an internal but stripped the screws so now I use it externally for movies I downloaded and want to watch on the TV. I can hook up to the computer, copy to my HDD and then hook it up to the PS3. Of course you could just use something like TVersity to transfer movies to your PS3 so internal would be better but external is working fine for me.

I have a 500gb that works great, I would recommend one of those.

I don't think external hard drives work with ps3s

Um...yes they do.

I've heard of people having problems with external drives. Although idk why you would get an external drive when a internal is much more space efficient.

Externals are good for movies, music ect. cause you can transfer it between computer/ps3 fast but internal are much better for game downloads it's just a little slower to transfer media imo. I'm getting a 500gb internal from newegg for $90 soon my friend has it i recommend it to anyone with a fairly big media library or downloads a lot from psn.

A larger internal drive might be your best bet, although it does take some extra work. Some external drives will not work for some reason. I have WD Passports that won't work.

PS3 will not access a external for demos or game data (saves and installs).

external harddrave uses extra spaces in the area in room, internal is containing spaces inside ps3, like xboze

But doesn't a larger internal HD only get hotter if it's at a higher RPM than the original HD that was in the PS3. Come to think of it what is the RPM of the HD's that come default in the PS3?
