I lay it horizontal because I'm afraid it might fall.

There is no consequences to laying it either way.

I lay it horizontal for saftey and also the underside of the PS3 would be facing me if it were vertical which doesn't look good.

I have mine vertical because it seems to get rid of heat a little better and as for worrying about it falling over I will say as long as it's on a solid surface it takes more than most would think to knock it over. The side that it's standing on is very flat and has enough area that it very stable standing vertical.

Looks alot cooler vertically. But keeping it laying down is easier to put discs in and more stable. But it collects dust easier. I think its easier to spin a diskk horizontally.

I had mine vertical, but since Sony designed it for both horizontal and vertical placements, I don't think it really matters.

Horizontally because it is more stable. Vertically seems to get rid of the heat easier though. Also if you have it vertically the flat bit at the bottom looks dodgy.

Vert... Had a nice spot to lay it down, but the heat blowing down on the wood got way to hot (and heat rises back up so that was dumb imo). Vert seems to keep it cooler.
