Well for me, God of War 3 has the best graphics for the ps3, but imagine, it was released 2 years ago. and GOW3 was being developed years back..How do you think ps3 graphics will look like in the near futured specially those exclusive ps3 games. Quantum Dream recently said that their next project will be a big leap compared to their last project heavy rain. wow, i couldn't wait anymore for that! Gran Turismo 6m i think will max out the mighty cell!

Hopefully there are at least a couple of big surprises as well.

Honestly I wouldn't expect to see a Gran Turismo 6 this generation.

Yeah, I really don't see Gran Turismo 6 coming this gen, as much as I'd like it to. They did mention that Uncharted 3 already maxed out the PS3's capacities.

GOW 3 is pretty mediocre imo, I mean sure the character models looks good (in some areas) but its a pretty lackluster example, and its not really about maxing out because different art styles and methods of rendering produce different results.

I agree with you, apart from the 'lackluster' example comment. It's certainly a beautiful game - not my cup of tea, but some scenes are incredible in both detail and magnitude. I wouldn't say it's the best looking though. I think it's still incredible how a much older game - MGS4 - is still absolutely incredible looking.

Yeah, the odd scene here and there does look quite good, but otherwise meh. MGS4 still blows me away every time i play it, the time and care that went into every little detail of that entire game (down to random items you can view in the menu and the level of detail on things that you'll maybe see for like 12 whole seconds in a 15 hour game) its the most impressive PS3 hands down imo.

I think it is coming close to being maxxed out. Although it has longer left in it than the Xbox 360. What annoys me about the PS3 also is that while it is this great machine etc... that you cannot access the menu button while a game is loading to see your friends/ send a message. I get this problem all the time when playing FIFA Soccer 12. You should be able to multitask on a machine like this!!!!

PS3 was maxed out with Uncharted 2. Devs are just using new techniques to get more out of it.

An example that I like.

Put rocks in a glass and it looks full, put pebbles and you can reach places that you couldn't before. And even then if you use sand the remaining nooks and crannies can be reached.

Trust me when I say this, there is no such thing as a console being "maxed out". There is ALWAYS room for more optimization but the developers simply don't have the time. Think of the PS3 as a glass and rocks as the data, if you put the rocks in as they are then it's going to fill up pretty quickly but if you crush the rocks down then you can fill more and more of the glass up. That's exactly what optimization is, getting more out of the system.

I personally think GOW 3 looks far better than MGS4, something about the style of metal gear didn't quite click with me. The cutscenes (of which there were maaaaaaaany) were pretty stunning but the in game models didn't fully click with me. GOW 3 did. Each to their own though

I think there is still some extra potential in the graphics output for PS3 games. We're certainly getting glimpses of the true quality to be produced. For example, Rage looked truly outstanding at times. Crysis 3 will undoubtably look amazing, as will God of War: Ascension.

It's just optimization. Of course they can eek a little tiny bit more, but at the end of they day they are just tweaking settings trying to get games running at 720p and 60 frames (if we are LUCKY!). The only game on consoles I know of surely that runs at 60fps are the Call of Duty games. With that said, it's running on the old modified Quake Engine. But for a game like Uncharted series to run at 60fps, looking the way it does, it would be impossible on today's consoles. The best that games like Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance can pull off is 30fps, with many dips below that mark. I'd like to see next-gen consoles bump it up a notch into the 40-50fps range, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

play uncharted 2 and god of war 3 on a 120hz tv, you'll see the difference! even Gears of war series is stunning. but not all games are stunning on 120hz. i dont see any changes in playing most fps on my 120hz tv.

Been maxed out since KZ2

They can always optimize more, but it's not gonna get much better.

Grapically? Maybe but who cares?

Innovation maxed out? Not even scratched the tip of the iceberg yet.

And that's where it counts.

yea GoW 3 was certinly decent looking but far from the best eye candy i've seen on ps3, max payne 3 looked way more detailed and realistic imo, especially in cut scenes..
