PS3 multi-region compatible?

I own a 60GB UK playstation 3.

I was going to import some Region 1 dvd's from the US and was wondering whether or not they will actually run on the PS3?

Anyone know?

Movies are NOT regionfree as a rule. With that said some bluray issuing companies are not putting regional restrictions on their movies (link below). The site linked below explains how it works - don't think anybody is surprised that Mr. Murdoch and Fox does regioncode :).. I assume you have an HDTV so the PAL / NTSC isn't an issue.

Only games PS3 games are region free. Only PAL PS2 games and PAL region 2 DVDs will work on it. You can't use Japanese region 2 DVDs though because it will not accept a NTSC DVD because it can't display in PAL and NTSC. Same goes for the Japanese version, it will not play PAL region 2 discs.austin_is_god

Austin's answer is correct for DVD's - sorry just saw that you wrote DVD's. If you (or someone else reading this) are buying bluray discs my answer stands.
