I've stood by the PS3 day in and day out telling gamers who are writing the system off to just be patient and give it a couple of months. It is outselling XBOX360 to this point in the console's life and does have Resistance and Motorstorm, but the majority of people seem to be buying their PS3's for the system's potential, rather than its current offerings. I personally love Resistance and Motorstorm, but I think that it is fair to say most people with a PS3 are waiting for MGS4, FFXIII, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and GTA4. Killzone and Lair are also on the list, but the problem seems to be, for those of you who are writing this system off early, that really none of these games are going to be released in the near future. Lair is the closest and that's May 7th which is a Monday and videogames are released on Tuesdays and Wednesdays so that date is for sure not official. What I think Sony needs to do is stop showing off its potential, like it did at GDC with Home and LittleBigPlanet, and start releasing games to prove what they're hyping up about their system is true.

So the point of all this? I say Sony needs to release Lair a little early. The game looks done from recent gameplay footage released and essentially could be the first breakout hit for the PS3. April doesn't look too good. Enchanted Arms is getting poor reviews early (Reviews) and F.E.A.R is already released on other platforms. If Lair were to be released in April, then the PS3 may finally be able to live-up to its promises and silence its critics. If it is the first breakout Sony hit, which it should be, then in no time at all, June will bring us Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and then soon after that MGS4. But waiting too long would be a mistake by Sony. They need to release a true next-gen game immediately. I love Resistance and Motorstorm and all, but I'm not blind enough to ignore the complaints of people getting bored with just those two games.

I agree 100%. The potential is there. Look at Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Killzone 2, and R&C. All these games look absolutely excellent. I wish one of these could come out, and blow the public away. But it looks like we will have to wait a while. :(

What came out during the PS2's first year that was so awesome huh? Nothing. I'll bet if you asked 100 PS2 gamers to list their top 25 games for the system, I'll bet maybe 3 of them will list a game that came out during the PS2's six months. MGS2, FFX, Devil May Cry, GTA3, those all came out almost a year after the PS2 launched. The one thing that Sony needs to deliver on is something GROUNDBREAKING. You cannot deny that the runaway success of the PS2 is due, in major part, to the Grand Theft Auto Series. GTA3 changed the way we play, the way we think about games, and it changed our understanding of what a video game was capable of. It was something special and it sold PS2's like CRAZY during that second X-mas season. Lair might do the same thing if the sixaxis controls are implemented well. However, I don't think that the game is going to have quite the same mass appeal as something like GTA which has a more contemporary setting. Heavenly Sword looks cool, but it looks like another GOW/DMC clone with beefed up graphics. It will be cool, it will be fun, it will be great, but it isn't going to change anything. GTA4, DMC4, FEAR, and everything else that has been announced just seems to be more of the same stuff. Sony needs something NEW. Something FRESH, SOmething GROUNDBREAKING that can only be played on the PS3 because of its superior computing ability and blu-ray capacity. The PS2 was such an improvement over the PS1 because it changed the way we think about games. I only hope the PS3 can do the same. I'm hoping that MGS4 and FF13 come through and REALLY offer gamers something extraordinary.

So you stuck by the ps3 before it was out and nows its out and you acturly played it youve turned to the view others had before it was released? I disagree with what you say about the ps3 needing to deliver, its delivering plenty at launch, a stronger launch than the wii or xbox360 i think. The top games run so smooth on and offline and look beautiful, what more where you after.

I think what he is after is something GREAT. So far, most of the PS3's lineup is pretty weak compared to what we were promised the PS3 was capable of. There are some shining stars, but mostly we have a lot of ports and shovelware. Even before its release games like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Assassins Creed, MGS4, etc. were advertised along with the PS3. Any preview of the system or its capabilities mentioned one of those games. Yet we are almost 5 months in and we are still waiting for those games. I think the original poster was trying say this...... It's like going out to eat at a new restaurant because you heard the steak was really good. You get there, and you are presented with some great appetizers, which you enjoy, for a little bit. But now you want your steak. And the friggen kitchen is backed up and you can't find the damn waitress. I WANT MY GOD DAMN STEAK

I think you expect too much. The 360 launch lacked any games as good as Resistance or Motorstorm and in fact I'd argue it only got those when Gears of War(good but overated)and Crackdown(my favourite next gen game)came out recently.I think the PS3 handles better, the GUI is massively superior to the gaudy mess of orange, purple and green on the 360(I've had it since launch so I'm in a good position for direct comparison). All the media functions are simple and function well and I feel the graphics are superior. There's a solidity to PS3s graphics that the 360 just doesn't have.I think Gears looks great but largely due to the good art design and I find Motorstorm more impressive and Resistance is pretty much there too.

All the talk of exclusives got me thinking.People say the PS has lost them all but tell me what exclusives the 360 will be left with now most of it's year one games are going multi format.Ghost recon,Rainbow six,Oblivion.Outside of Gears and Crackdown, show me the killer app exclusives of the first 15 months of 360.

Online will be the area that needs the most work, but that is the only area that MS has to pull on where it's experience exceeds Sony.Home looks more interesting and deep than Live.We will see.Let's be grown up thought and at least give the console a chance to mature. It's the best hardware and if the past tells you anything it's that Sony will have the games following.

Hypocrisy. How long did MS show Gears,Crackdown, mass Effect,Huxley before they launched(some still haven't).We really must look at all consoles with the same criteria. The media are guilty of this too.I'm yet to see a real break down of the 360s failings as hardware/interface and there are many.Even it's delivery of first year games is not that strong with lots of current gen ports.I wish people would use the same criteria. Why does the Wii graphics only get compared to itself while PS3 gets compared to 360.I think Zelda got 9 for graphics on Gamepot while Resistance got an 8.It's a nonsense.

They rushed Resistance, and that still turned out to be a classic. Besides, what is 20 days in comparison to over a year or multiple years of development?

lol, perfect metaphor. Exactly what I'm saying. So don't get me wrong here people, I love Sony and I am very loyal to PS3, but this is exactly it. Taking the risk of being released well after the 360 was established should have forced Sony to release more games showing off the systems capabilities. I love Resistance and Motorstorm, love them, but they don't take full advantage of the PS3's power and we should have got a game that could immediately. If PS3 were released the same time as 360, I wouldn't be complaining, but you know, choosing to be the later release should have forced Sony's hand more than this.

Why would Sony risk pressuring developers into launching PS3 titles for the PS3 on launch if the games are not finished. Doing that helps no one. Some of you guy's have absolutely no patience at all.

I think you are forgetting that SOny has very little to do with when a game is released. If the game isn't ready to br released then its not going to come out. Thereis very little control on that aspect. As many have stated, the 360 launch titles weren't as good as it is now. In fact after a year being out it has only a handful of games I actually like and most of them will be coming out for the PS3 as well.

Also, If you call your self a ony fan you would know this is nothing new with the company. If you looked at each launch from the PS1 til now you would see most of the great games doesn't come out til around the one year mark or later. What you and many others need to do is have patients. Just wait for the games to start coming out. No matter what is said games aren't going to launch before they are readt so there is no need to even get upset. Games are coming just like it did for the 360.

Potential is a strong thing, but it is only strong if the system can live up to that potential and with Sony's track record we would think there shouldn't be an issue. I can't wait for FF and many other games that will come out in the future, but I have no choice and will play what I have and buy games as the time past. Relax and just wait for them. The PS3 is still growing and evolving and hopefully it will give us a better gaming experience as time passes.

if you're saying Sony should put up or shut up then i agree...talk is cheap !
enough with the irrogant statements like "next-gen. doesn't start until we say so"...what a joke?

the PS3's potential is there...the system speaks for itself now let the GAMES speak for themselves!!!
- just bring on the GAMES!!!

Bro...the ps3 only has 4 months underneth it's belt, be patient. Nobody jumped on the 360 banwagon until Geow came out!! A year after the system came out. Ps3 owners are lucky, we don't have to wait that long.

And as far as releasing Lair early, well, last I heard, the team was close to the final tweaking stage for the game but they couldn't give a definite release date because it was up to Sony to tactically release it.

If you own a 360 already you really shouldn't have bought one yet. I don't have a lot of sympathy for early adopters who are complaining right now. If you are a ps3 owner only , there should be plenty of great games to choose from right now and that will release in the next 3 months.

As far as the media is concerned , I don't ever see a time when they will cut the ps3 a break because of its hefty price tag. LAIR isn't going o help any , and neither is HS.

The reason for the long wait is because Sony invested a lot of money in those titles and if they are release too soon and don't do good they lose a lot of money.  MS seem to be doing this a lot more than before too and the outcome is much better.
