a system as pweful as the ps3 i believe should have more supported video formats. im sick of having to convert my videos to mp4, mpeg4. at least have the big formats like AVI and, WMA. there should be an update for it.MATSIMUSThere is a reason why those formats/containers are not supported, they are proprietor, designed to be controlled where as MPEG is designed to be used by all. This is why it always pays to use more open formats.
divx is enough and it is all the ps3 will ever need. wherever you get your videos from they can be converted to divx in no time.
get a program called dr.divx, it converts a 30min tv show to divx in 10mins or less and a full 2 hour movie to divx in about 45mins. it makes files very small but still has great quality. i managed to rip a dvd to my pc and convert it to divx and it takes up 500mb and the quality is perfect, not quite as good as the dvd but its only 500mb and can be saved to the hdd
btw PS3 supports DivX ( .avi ) files :PSONY has been adding additional codecs to PS3 over time however you can't expect everything to be given to you in one day.

Just a note:
.avi files are just containers. What you need are the appropriate codecs. the PS3 supports DivX 5 and up, but not 3.11 (XviD).
TVersity really makes life simple, it requires a ton of router management and set up, but, the website has detailed instructions, once up, it just works, http://www.tversity.com/home if you wanna know where to find it, I use it, like I said, it's a major pain in the ass to set up with your wireless router, especially if you are properly firewalled, but, it's worth the time it takes to set it up, and you can find step by step videos on youtube, etc.
