This my friend makes the most sense. I really don't see why Sony has not tried this. A PS3/BC for like $50 more I'd buy it just so I have one less console hooked to my TV. Of course for the extra price it needs to be like the early PS3s with the built in EE, not just emulation.

Yup, Sony should have made 2 models. One with backwards compatibility and one without it. That way, we all get what we want. I would pay $100 dollars more for a backwards compatible PS3, if I already did not have one.
I don't know why people keep saying "buy a PS2". Playing PS2 games on a PS3 is better in my opinion. Less clutter, almost unlimited memory cards in the PS3 hard drive, wireless controllers, up scaling. Pretty much, you would get an all in one system! So yeah, "buying a PS2" is not good enough. If the PS3 can play PS1 games, then it should be able to play PS2 games. PS2 parts are not that much expensive anymore, so there really is not any reason for Sony to remove the PS2 hardware from the PS3. They could have even used it to their advantage because they could have started selling PS2 titles in the PSN store like they do with PS1. Not only that, here is an example; how can a person play the whole metal gear solid series when MGS 2 and 3 don't work on the PS3? They can only play MGS 1 and MGS4 on the PS3. Are they supposed to go out and buy a new system? Serously?
Serously, the people who bash backwards compatiblity seem to do it only to defend Sony's ever move. Having backwards compatiblity does not hurt the PS3 or PS3 game sales. Really, removing it was stupid and makes no sense in the least. I wish to keep my 60 GB PS3 just for this feature!
I'd pay that much, too. Heck, I actually paid $200. lol. I can understand people saying "Get a PS2" due to the fact that its the most obvious solution to anyone wanting to play old PS2 games. Saying "Get a PS2" suggesting its a BETTER solution, however, is just dumb. You just can't top the convenience of being able to play all your Playstation games in the same console while taking up less space in your entertainment center.lol exatclty! I paid $500 bucks for my 60 GB PS3. I got it when they released the 80 GB and discontiuned the 60 GB PS3 back in 2007. I thought it was worth it. The convenient, all in one backwards compatible PS3 is much better than having to connect a PS2 and a PS3. lol
