The best/biggest tv screen I've got in my house is mediocre... at best. It's a decent size, but it's not plasma, LCD, HD or anything like that. Are the PS3's beautiful graphics and effects gonna be lost on me? :(

I'm actually in the same dillema as you, while my Tv might be new it is not HD or anything. Can anybody shed light on this problem? Will effect the quality of gaming? Because I am planning on getting a PS3 soon.

Its fine as long as you have a decent size TV. i play mine on a 32" SDTV(not for long though) and its looks great. Thats not to say its without drawbacks. on an SDTV some text looks tiny and the edges might get clipped off here and there. But it looks good still.

I have a sdtv it's a flat screen. I'm ok with it for now, I am going to upgrade sometime next year though.

The games still look next generation, they just look better on a HDTV. Like Dimb above said sometimes the edges get clipped. I didn't let it stop me from getting a ps3 and xbox 360 elite before the HDTV.

I have a really crappy SDTV, but you can still notice the graphics being improved over last gen games. My only problem, as another poster pointed out, is that sometimes the text is so small you can't read it. I'm looking at you GRAW2.

No it wont, games from insomniac have the font mad for SDs too, but even in games were the font is not good, as in Lair or Motorstorm, its easy to read. I have an SD, will be posting shots later to help ease your minds :D. Dont worry, it still looks FANTASTIK. I mean, its not as trolls said or elitists, its still way better than PS2, I mean, wayyyyyyyy better.

As for the gameplay. Most games have the screen already set up, but others as Lair you will need to change that. Lair has an option to do so, I mean, shrinking the sides of it.

Thanks alot, I was going to buy one eventually but everytime I had a chance I would hesitate. Next time I have the oppurtunity I'll make sure I buy without any worries.

This is the response i give everyone who asks this question: To see what kind of a difference it is to play your PS3 on a SDTV compared to a HDTV, try switching you screen resolution to 640x480 on your computer. Yeah things may still look alright, but it just doesn't compare when you see it in 1280x720 or higher resolution. I have played on both and personally once you go to HD you won't really want to go back :)

Excellent, thanks a lot for all of the feedback. (And trust me, if an HDTV were currently in my budget, I'd go for it, it's just that I'm taking baby steps with my next/current gen transition.)

I have one of those big 70" tv's that are sort of like an entertainment system. They have speakers built into the bottom and the screen is nice and flat. However, it only supports up to 480i :(. ;p Oh well, it looks awesome XD (Can't wait to get an hdtv)

I have a 32" SDTV and the graphics look amazing. As you read the posts you'll see many of us are very happy with our tubes. I'll upgrade before the August 09 deadline but I'm happy with my SDTV. Comcast digital cable hasn't dissapointed me yet.

i never hooked mine up to a sdtv. but i did have my ps3 hooked up with the yellow white and red wires the first weekend i had my ps3. and motor storm looked kinda blurry and a bit to bright.to be honest if i didnt have a hdtv and a hdmi cable or any hd hook up. i wouldnt buy a ps3 at this time because its 400 to 600 bucks
