Hi all, Thinking about purchasing a ps3. i play alot of online gaming on the pc, my favourite at the mo is cod4. As im becoming sick and tired of everyone hacking online i was wondering if there is anyway of hacking online with the ps3 and if so on what sort of scale does this happen?. Also ive heard of certain games being a subject of "slowdown" on the ps3 is this a major problem?. Any feedback well appreciated thx.

From the games I've played online on PS3 (Resistance, Warhawk), it works flawlessly and I've encountered no hackers.

Every system can have cheating but its reduced to a point on consoles. There is no slow down is quality titles such as CoD4, only in the lower quality thing like the crap EA spews out.

I've seen a few people using lag switches but only one or 2 here or there. the actual lag on the newtwork isn't bad at all. i have experienced some but not nearly enough to ruin gameplay. and its very rare when it does happen

seriously...I love the PS3 and all but it's online sucks. luckily I don't care too much about online gaming. VoIP is terrible you can only understand maybe 2 or 3 people out of 15. A lot of the games just have bad options for joining rooms and adding friends. If you are getting a console for online gaming get an xbox. if you already have an xbox and are only concerned about online gaming then don't bother with a ps3. get a PS3 if you like variety and games with stories

I'm not trying to sway you away from buying a PS3 but if online gaming is what you crave you might be a little dissapointed with the ps3.

VoIP - voice over IP. online chatting. it's very lackluster on the PS3 at least for me. I've had some good luck with the USB headsets but not all the time and the Bluetooth headsets are just too noisy and noone seems to be able to talk to each other.
this is just my experience. I had an xbox when I was into gears and PGR3 and those headsets worked perfect for me. coming from that it's a huge difference.

it really depends on the games you are interested in. most online games are better on xbox. but PS3 will have haze and UT3 soon. plus warhawk is pretty fun. cod4 is good too on ps3 but I can't unsderstand anyone. but when I had the beta on xbox the voice chat was perfect.

I don't doubt that sony will get their online network situated at some point but it is taking a little bit of time. Where as microsoft seems to have the whole online software thing down pretty good. but keep in mind Microsoft doesn't have the hardware experience that sony has...I'm sure you've heard plenty already about 1 in 3 xboxes breaking.

if only they would join forces...
sony hardware, microsoft software...

lol interesting thought. Knowing little about the two its a tough choice. Ive been an oline gamer on the PC for years but ive never seen an online game for any of the consoles let alone played them,so its really a stab in the dark for me. I will just be happy if the cheats are limited whatever i decide to go with :)
