Category A - The kid. He could afford to buy the console because he lives with his parents and doesn't have living expenses to worry about. Probably saved up his allowance and birthday money from uncle Bob. Typically engages in flame wars.

Category B - The hardcore. This guy doesn't live with his parents, and he even has a job. But he lacks a social life. He doesn't spend much money on going out, so there's plenty for games. He probably owns every console, ever, and at least three versions of any given game.

These are the general categories. Both are minorities, hence PS3's market failure at the moment. I'm sure there are few exceptions (me being one).

Category C - Then there's the guy who works, buys it anyway. lives at home BUT DO HAVE TO PAY TO LIVE AT HOME OR ELSE THERE WOULD BE NOTHING. He works, Makes food, pays half or more for everything cause that's the least he can do to help out when his mom has said it's ok for him to stay home. he does own every console and is a regular gamer who doesn't love the console, but the games.

you incredibly ignorant, and there is no reason to stereotype a PS3 fan, and especially last time i checked your not a reliable analyst who has made a huge questionnaire of at-least 1million of PS3 owners since there are over 3 million, so you cant really be serious about it!

this thread was dumb!

Thus CATEGORY D- Dont live with parents, does have a good job, married and goes out with friends, has both major console but only truly buys games he likes and only the version thats the best no need for extras, this is the casual gamer who just grew up in the generation and still likes good competition on and offline when he can find it.

Wow! You couldn't be more wrong. I'm sorry, but that was just useless. According to what you just typed there, you're clearly a believer in stereotypes.

So, why should any of us believe you're an exception? I can tell you right now I'm an exception and I'm sure there are many more who fall in the same category. You're view on this is very narrow minded.

Generally yes. In the defense of the little man, there are a lot of adults/older kids that act like frivolous twelve year olds. I fall into the category of the person who has the money and bought the PS3 because he could. The only reason I am here "posting" is because I am bored otherwise I am working.

I'm sticking with my original argument. If the PS3 was cheaper it'd be number 1 right now, but the price makes it available only to category A and B. Stop trying to deny it, guys. You know I'm right!synce

There is a third: The family that wants to enjoy a muti-media console in the family/living room. With the Blue-Ray, upscaled DVD's, media readers/media sharing possibilies, and a place for the family to play games together.

hmmmm......what to say? People buy systems/games for all kinds of reasons. Me, i have the means to buy all the consoles and then buy the games i want because i busted my ass in college and am now reaping the rewards. I get to also have a social life to go along with the gaming because as stated above, i put myself into the position where i can afford to do what i want.

i would say your 2 categories are the extremes of both sides. i would say that the majority are those that fit in between the 2. most have a job and fend for themselves and have a lot of responsibility. if you honestly believe you are right on this issue then the only thing for certain is that you are full of crap.

I honestly don't think you could group gamers of any system into categories. Even more so, you can't blame categories of people for a system's so called "failure". Its doing pretty well right now.

You generalized too much/deep.

I am a kid living under my parent. I didn't want to burden her with a $600 price tag at the time, so I GOT A JOB, and didn't rely on free cash.

What stereotypical category do you fall under:

A)

Too old to accept different type of owners (More than a minority.)?

B)

You gotta be trolling. I don't know anyone older than me that spoke such nonsense.

(I'm 17 and find your OP pretty much black and white and afraid to be open minded.....more.)

Same could be said about any other console.
