I'm wondering how many long time PS2 fans decided NOT to get a PS3.  Has anything been writen about this yet? I think most people are pretty loyal to one console or another.  Wondering what's prompted this.

I never had a Playstation, or Playstation 2. sadly, I was a hard core Nintendo fanboy back in those days. after five years of having almost nothing to play on my gamecube, while watching my friend Joe get a new great game every few months for his PS2, I decided to get a PSP, and I haven't looked back. after that, I got my Xbox 360, and last month, I got my Playstation 3 :D

I'm a PS2 owner and have decided against getting a PS3 until it comes down to a reasonable price.  Maybe when it matches the Xbox 360 Premium price of $399.99 I'll take a more serious look at it, but until then I'm enjoying my PS2, 360 and Wii.

I've been with Playstation since the Christmas of 1995 (year the first PS came out). When PS2 came out, I got that... and when PS3 came out recently, I got that. I also have a PSP. The Playstation brand has brought me nothing but hours upon hours of gaming enjoyment.

Why would someone who didn't want to buy or was not interested in the PS3 come to the PS3 Forum? Your thread probably belongs in System Wars or the PS2 Forum.

I got a ps1 (i think, can't remember exactly) about 2 years after its launch with a copy of WCW mayhem. The same thing goes for the playstation 2, i got it 2 years after its release with a copy of 007 agent under fire which was really cool when i first got my hands on my ps2. as for the playstation 3, i bought the 60 gig 3 days ago with a copy of R:FOM :D, the playstation 3 is the only concole that i got close to its release date.

I always waited a year to get the playstation system so sony can work out the errors.  That's what I did for the PS1 and PS2.  So I will get the PS3 either this christmas or early 2008.

I upgraded to the PS3 after having a PS2 and a PS1 (still have both actually). It's hard to argue against getting the PS3 after pouring a ton of money into games for the older systems and having the capability to still play them on the newest console.

Full backwards compatibility was a smart move for Sony with the PS2 and it still is with the PS3. It makes for better brand loyalty. I upgraded to the new model of the "other" console and it sure doesn't make me feel the love when half my old games don't work and none of them can reuse my old save data.

Same way I feel. And I have a pretty good job like the rest of you I am sure but I also value my money. Not gonna pay 600 for something with 1 game worth playing right now.

I was a Nintendo fanboy in my early days. I had an NES and SNES, was about to get an N64 because i LOVED Super Mario 64. My older sister though talked me into getting a PlayStation, not to mention my favorite franchise in history was going on that platform (Mega Man) so that was a huge factor. Since then i have always been with Sony and always will be, with or without Mega Man.

Of course i plan on owning the other systems, but not until they drop in price. Basically because with the 360 not enough games spark my interest (besides Lost Planet) and Wii....Well if i want a Gamecube, ill buy a Gamecube. And so far the Wii is overpriced IMHO.

I'm not a former PS2 user as I still play the games for the system. But, I've owned every PS system since the first one; reason? I just believe Sony is a reliable company who takes care of its consumers, so I just kept buying the systems and will continue to buy them in the future. As for XBox I don't know, I don't hate the system, nor do I dislike it, the fact that I don't buy one is I just don't have that trust for the system as I do for the Playstation. I played the Playstation ever since I was a lad, and I've grown into buying this system because it satisfies my gaming addiction.

i dont think i ever oned a ps1.  my friends had one so i never needed one.  i'm not sure when the ps2 came out, but i didnt get one of those until probably 3 years ago.  I got it probably a month before the slimline systems came out, when they were $150.  Now I got my PS3 as soon as they started showing up everywhere.  But I'm the only person I know of that has one right now.  All my friends with ps2's won't upgrade until the price comes down.

I had a PS & PS2 and planned on buying a PS3 at launch. The PS3 came out too expensive and I'm not happy with the final design. I'm waiting till the Zephyr XBOX comes out later this year and might buy a PS3 in a few years with a price drop.

I know many ps2 fans who are holding off on getting a ps3 because they have loads of ps2 games they nee to finish, and have more games they need to buy (GoW2 and Manhunt 2). I think that the ps2 is working against the ps3 right now, but in a few years, all those ps2 years wil make the jump. The problem with Nintendo and M$ is that they forced their install-base to go into the next-gen early by abandoning the gcn and the Xbox

i owned all three last gen consoles but favored my ps2 the most. i almost didn't get a ps3 because of all the price talk. i was going to get a 360 until i realized the ps3 was a bargain, and the reason why i bought my ps2 was the reason i should buy a ps3. final fantasy and metal gear.

I'm wondering how many long time PS2 fans decided NOT to get a PS3. Has anything been writen about this yet? I think most people are pretty loyal to one console or another. Wondering what's prompted this.

The_G00se

I owned Playstation 1,2 and 3 because it's not about loyalty it's about reliability which in these days people don't understand or maybe they don't want to.

my family uses alot of sony stuff.

but i never had a PS, but i got a PS2 and was amazed that it could play such awesome looking games, DVD's, and CD's...it was worth every penny. and to me, it did the best out of its competition. later, i bought a PSP when it first came out(i live in JP so i got mine early luckily) and i love it, i can have awesome looking/great games on the go, watch my movies, listen to music, and go on the web, it was the best.

and when the PS3 came out...i had to have one. its like a ps2 + psp had a baby while having steroids...its the best. i love that i can go online an check all my stuff, and that i can play games an go online for FREE. plus all the other good stuff.

and Blu-Ray, winning the format wars...another plus for my PS3. she has done me proud

I'm a follower since the original PS came out and a current ps3 owner, but there are definitely plenty people I know who got a 360 after the ps2 because of the lower price, so the loyalty thing is not that clear cut. In fact, the ps2 had a bigger fan base in 04 than both 360 and ps3 have now.

I never had a Playstation but I played my fair share, inlcuding FVII, I did buy a ps2, at launch and it was a great machine, both for games and movies. I bought my PS3 at launch, $700 was more than worth it. Playing resistance at launch was great, Uncharted is not to be missed, I've logged HOURS into Pain Multiplayer, and I now own over 120 Blurays. My PS3 money was well spent. To think of the amount of money I could have spent on both a Wii and/or 360 ( and Live fees) I am MUCH happier with my PS3, both for games and HD movies. Anyone who isn't getting one by June 12th with Metal Gear, isn't thinking clearly.

I've yet to get a PS3. And honestly, I'm not sure I am ever going to get one. I have *never* bought a used console unless I couldn't help it.. Used games, maybe. A used handheld because it was the classic NES edition SP, but never a home console. Put bluntly: - Nintendo: only had one DS lite break on me, first from the cracked hinge, and later the power switch part that connects to the circuit board broke off. Never had to replace a single home console of theirs, in spite of years of service and (ab)use. - Sega: Dreamcast gave me 6.5 years of awesomeness, and its "no modchip required" ability gave it several new leases on life. :D Thankfully my g/f was able to find a pair of same-year units for cheap that are keeping me going. - Microsoft: I received a used Xbox 1 as a gift, but it seemed to have problems with its internal power supply. Never could get it resolved, and it was already out of warranty w/ Microsoft. Had only one RRoD with a 360, though that would have been resolved had I been able to just buy a separate hard drive to replace the original. On the whole, what few problems I've had aren't such a big deal because I never had to pay out of pocket to fix them - they were always within warranty or service plan with either Best Buy or MS. - Sony: three FUBAR'd PS1's. First was DOA, second decided to start scratching my game discs on both sides and overheat like a **** Third one had probably had the loudest drive this side of the Dreamcast. Three FUBAR'd PS2's, before getting my current unit, chipped, reinforced and with a nice big hard drive for HDLoader The last one before this had its disc drive shatter... and I don't mean just the face plate. When I finally opened it up to see how bad the damage was, the thing was cracked in half and the internal mechanics were basically lying in pieces on the bottom of the unit.  Countless games scratched/thrashed up by each of these busted PlayStations, and not one would Sony cut me some slack on, thus forcing me to buy another one. Now it seems I'm basically boned as far as a PS3 is concerned. Going through the Sony Compatibility lists, there are still games on there that are glitched on the 80GB that I want to still be able to play; no problems if I could have had a 60(or 20)GB unit, but of course Sony gave a collective "**** you ****" to its userbase and neutered the thing. My brother had offered to sell me his (used) 60GB PS3, but I know him well enough to know that thing's probably seen more (ab)use than he may claim, and relatively fleecing me out, asking $500 for it. :(

The "good one" (the 60GB) was $600, and even the upcoming 80GB bundle is $499. Factor in sales tax (unless you're lucky enough to live where this isn't charged), and it certainly comes close to $600 once all is said and done.

PS2 Won the last generations System War, by FAR...with ~100 Million consoles sold, There are only ~10 million PS3's Sold....Where are the other 90 million PS2 owners? I think after the PS3 drops in price to 300 or lower, theres going to be a huge spike in PS3's Sold, I believe there are still a ton of PS2 owners waiting for that price drop to finally upgrade

I'm willing to wager that about a third of that 100M figure of PS2's sold are in a landfill somewhere. realistically, you'd be looking at another 40 million ps2 owners who would migrate to the PS3. :)

[QUOTE="axillia"]I'm a PS2 owner and have decided against getting a PS3 until it comes down to a reasonable price. Maybe when it matches the Xbox 360 Premium price of $399.99 I'll take a more serious look at it, but until then I'm enjoying my PS2, 360 and Wii.patriots7672

Where have you been? The PS3 is $399 and the online is free.

This thread is from 2007..

Does anyone look at post time? I've especially been paying attention since alot of people have been reviving old threads.
