I'm wondering how many long time PS2 fans decided NOT to get a PS3. Has anything been writen about this yet? I think most people are pretty loyal to one console or another. Wondering what's prompted this.

I owned a PS2, then I bought a PS3, because Sony is awesome.I'm wondering how many long time PS2 fans decided NOT to get a PS3. Has anything been writen about this yet? I think most people are pretty loyal to one console or another. Wondering what's prompted this.

I've been with Playstation since the Christmas of 1995 (year the first PS came out). When PS2 came out, I got that... and when PS3 came out recently, I got that. I also have a PSP. The Playstation brand has brought me nothing but hours upon hours of gaming enjoyment.
Why would someone who didn't want to buy or was not interested in the PS3 come to the PS3 Forum? Your thread probably belongs in System Wars or the PS2 Forum.
I upgraded to the PS3 after having a PS2 and a PS1 (still have both actually). It's hard to argue against getting the PS3 after pouring a ton of money into games for the older systems and having the capability to still play them on the newest console.
Full backwards compatibility was a smart move for Sony with the PS2 and it still is with the PS3. It makes for better brand loyalty. I upgraded to the new model of the "other" console and it sure doesn't make me feel the love when half my old games don't work and none of them can reuse my old save data.
I'm a PS2 owner and have decided against getting a PS3 until it comes down to a reasonable price. Maybe when it matches the Xbox 360 Premium price of $399.99 I'll take a more serious look at it, but until then I'm enjoying my PS2, 360 and Wii.axillia
Same way I feel. And I have a pretty good job like the rest of you I am sure but I also value my money. Not gonna pay 600 for something with 1 game worth playing right now.
I was a Nintendo fanboy in my early days. I had an NES and SNES, was about to get an N64 because i LOVED Super Mario 64. My older sister though talked me into getting a PlayStation, not to mention my favorite franchise in history was going on that platform (Mega Man) so that was a huge factor. Since then i have always been with Sony and always will be, with or without Mega Man.
Of course i plan on owning the other systems, but not until they drop in price. Basically because with the 360 not enough games spark my interest (besides Lost Planet) and Wii....Well if i want a Gamecube, ill buy a Gamecube. And so far the Wii is overpriced IMHO.

I owned Playstation 1,2 and 3 because it's not about loyalty it's about reliability which in these days people don't understand or maybe they don't want to.

I was a hardcore PS2 fan and didn't buy the PS3 until about two weeks ago.
my family uses alot of sony stuff.
but i never had a PS, but i got a PS2 and was amazed that it could play such awesome looking games, DVD's, and CD's...it was worth every penny. and to me, it did the best out of its competition. later, i bought a PSP when it first came out(i live in JP so i got mine early luckily) and i love it, i can have awesome looking/great games on the go, watch my movies, listen to music, and go on the web, it was the best.
and when the PS3 came out...i had to have one. its like a ps2 + psp had a baby while having steroids...its the best. i love that i can go online an check all my stuff, and that i can play games an go online for FREE. plus all the other good stuff.
and Blu-Ray, winning the format wars...another plus for my PS3. she has done me proud

uh yall do know there are PS3's for $399 right?uh yall do know there are PS3's for $399 right?baller72The "good one" (the 60GB) was $600, and even the upcoming 80GB bundle is $499. Factor in sales tax (unless you're lucky enough to live where this isn't charged), and it certainly comes close to $600 once all is said and done.

Where have you been? The PS3 is $399 and the online is free.
PS2 Won the last generations System War, by FAR...with ~100 Million consoles sold, There are only ~10 million PS3's Sold....Where are the other 90 million PS2 owners? I think after the PS3 drops in price to 300 or lower, theres going to be a huge spike in PS3's Sold, I believe there are still a ton of PS2 owners waiting for that price drop to finally upgradeStark1177I'm willing to wager that about a third of that 100M figure of PS2's sold are in a landfill somewhere. realistically, you'd be looking at another 40 million ps2 owners who would migrate to the PS3. :)
Maybe he meant $399 with (at least some) BC.Where have you been? The PS3 is $399 and the online is free.
