i dont beleive all the hype of the cell cpu.
ive just got ps3 and have only played resistence for my self and im not that too impressed with it but im sure games that are coming in the next months will be good but not becasue of what sony say the cell can do..rember they said simlar things about the emotion engine also and i dont think that added to games much either.

I hate to use this example, but look at that one good game on the other system Gears, it has max 4-5 enemies onscreen at any one time. Resistance has much more going on. That shows the multitasking abilities of the PS3. So yes cell means more stuff. Motorstorm is another great example of cell and it's use for physics. I was getting too the end of the race. I was neck and neck with 3 other cars coming up to the finish line. I hit the boost coming to the finish line and my car blew up, hurling my guy about 300mph thru the finish line and I won first place. How is that for physics :)

I guess, but physics on half life 2 are better with source and all. i think R:FoM shows the cells power for now till MGS4 and upcoming games. cmon Kojima is a perfectionist right?

i beleive all the hype of the cell cpu!
PS3 = Smarter
yes, you can see already see the impact of cell in games like resistance, (insane amount of enemies on screen with next gen ai and physics); motorstorm (crazy amount of mud caking on your rig in real time with real time track deformation and hella parts flying everywhere); and F1 with the super cool looking rain effects which are being run through one of cell's spe's in real time where the rain reacts to the movement of the car.
In the near future, games like Heavenly Sword will show even more of what cell is 'bout http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/04/11/heavenly-sword-week-continues-the-tech-behind-the-sword/

4 REAL
Since I had the PS3 I think its 1 damn smooth running machine. I really cant compare it to any other system besides the PS2 but so far the games I have like Motor Storm, Resistance, Fightnight, Grand Turismo Hd, and some others demos and game trailers show a very powerful cell on my Samgsung 56in 1080p TV.
Â
But I think the cell has the power to handle much more. When game developers get grips on making full 1080p games and using the size of blu ray not only to fit content but other programs that handle graphics, speed and other stuff.
Â
I just want to see better online. Motorstorm, fightnight, CoD and some other games online and the servers that support them are not good for next gen. And I have a powerfull connection, Fightnight is so bad online, hard to get games, dont know what to do, choppy online, and this seems like the same issues since 1. Oh well   Â

Obvoiusly the cell has big impact on the games. Sony, ibm and toshiba didnt spend 400 million dollar to design the cell so in the end it will be matched up with current multicore processors.
All joking aside RFOM and motorstorm are the best examples of game play being enhanced. RFOM is a very busy game many of the single player campaigns have so much going on right on the screen it crazy. crapbox360 gears is practically dead compared to this game. maybe gears has prettier graphics but the surrounding, the immersion of the game is dull.vince7669
gears is awesome and 360 is a very power system. although the ps3 is more powerfull, they both offer crazy fun games. thats why i own both. oh, and the wii is a nothing.
In Oblivion, made a fire spell with a 70ft radius, went into the arch mages room, casted the spell, everything when FLYING EVRYWHERE and no slow down. if that counts for anything.Freebird8877
you have a point. on 360 that would slow down to a near stop, but right itself nonetheless. interesting...

Sure Resistance has more going on...more guys anyway....but they're dumb as hell.Â

I will tell it like this. I own a xbox 360 and a ps3, and the year head start the xbox 360 advantage for devs to take advantage of the xbox 360 has shown great graphics so far, but nothing that I cant see the ps3 doing. I mean the ps3 for the short time that it has been out has amazed me with games like Motorstorm which I still have yet to see any physics so realistic in a racer game on the xbox 360. Just like the other poster before me said, with Resistance Fall Of Man, how many enemies and allies and objects with explosions happening on the screen with high detailed graphics going on at one time, compared to gears of war where there is only like 5 or 6 enemies on the screen at the most, and barely even anything going on as much as u see on resistance fall of man. U can clearly see that when a game is built from the ground up for the ps3 such as motorstorm and resistance fall of man and taking advantage of the hardware, that the ps3 is alot more impressive then the xbox 360, and that is the honest truth. I will admit that right now the xbox 360 has more games that I like to play on there but the ps3 for a console that just came out, it is showing me alot of things that I havent seen the xbox 360 do, besides the graphics which the xbox 360 holds for the time being, but I think that will change when devs start to tap into the ps3 and the first game I think that will show the ps3's graphics will be MGS4 and Gran Turismo 5. I think Lair and Heavenly Sword and other games will show off some other areas which take advantage of the cell processor which we will notice just like we have with RFOM and Motorstorm. I love both systems but the ps3 for the short time that it has been out, has shown me alot more then the xbox 360 and I believe it will only continue to surpass things as times go on vs the competition.
some levels in Resistance are pretty large in scale, and at the same time, many enemy and NPC running around ....
I'd say that counted for something

So the argument is having more enemies, explosions, etc., on screen, yet the comparisons always include Gears, and xbox game which happens to have no more than maybe 10-12 enemies on the screen at once. Ok, true, but are people forgetting about how hectic Lost Planet and Dead Rising get? What about Ninety-Nine Nights? I'm not arguing over which system is better, but please, make better comparisons.
I think we should still wait a bit to see how the cell effects games.
Most of the PS3 games out yet are multiplat, and sure those games wont be shiny examples of what the cell is capable of.
Talking about how many enemies are on screen, again, I think we should wait for Heavenly Sword. The developers promised hundreds (not 'a hundred') of enemies at once on screen, all burning to slash you. Keep in mind that there'll still be highly detailed environments which you can see extending for miles.
I think this is gonna be one great exmaple of what the PS3 and the Cell can achieve.
[QUOTE="GIJames248"] I believe the Cell can be used to boost the somewhat inferior RSX. bobbytkcI believe you have never went to the B3D forums, where actual ninja theory Devs talked about the RSX
I believe that compared to the quality processor in the PS3 and the 360's GPU the the RSX is looking kinda stale. Considering the RSX is a nice 7800-7900 the RSX isn't as advanced as the 360's GPU which has the 10 megabyte daughter die for virtually free 4x antialiasing and the new Unified shader Architecture. The RSX is based on 2 year old technology. It's solid, but not flashy. Probably the thing that has me most excited about the Cell is that the SPEs have been compared to powerful, general purpose shader units, so once developers get familiar with PS3 hardware they can suplement the RSX with the Cell and blow the 360 out of the water.
cell handels physics on ps3 games really really well.
games like resistance use the cell to keep the game lookin like alot of mayham is going on, plus 40 players on one screen
No one could claim experiencing the cell's gameplay yet, simply because any games has really used it at full potential... ( same as 360 no games really use fully the 3 cores) We'll see later when devellopers will have more time to work on this new technology
Look at it this way, its good news because we are yet to see much better games one these two consoles when they manage to exploit them more...
But I'd rather say multicore gameplay, instead of just cell, cause so far, the PS3 definitely as to prove that it has more in the stomach than the 360 (with so many games with bad framerate, that's definitely a cpu issue that needs to be solved...)

usule
No that is definitely not true, the framerate issue only occurs in the games that have been directly ported from the 360 counterparts and the developers are too lazy to optimize the game for the cell+rsx, it's not a cpu issue as you can see with the 1st party games for sony none of them have framerate problems, now if the games were developed strictly around the ps3 hardware there would never be any framerate problems, but a port will always be a port.
I agree. I've yet to see a game that couldn't have been released on another platform.i dont beleive all the hype of the cell cpu.

Comparing RFOM to Gears is pointless because RFOM is a run n gun type of game and gears is not.I have not played COD3 but I remember COD2 having many enemies on screen at the same time and that was a launch title.
