Hi guys, I had a couple of questions before I buy a ps3 slim and 24 inch lcd monitor i've been reading reviews of monitors and they all say they use HD->DVI adapters for video...if the monitor has an HD port, why use this adapter and not just use an HDMI cable? Its possible these were all old reviews and HDMI ports were uncommon in those days. What are some of the current recommended LCD monitors for the ps3?...I plan on using it dually with my pc Thanks.

I too am looking for a monitor for my PS3 Slim. I've decided to get one instead of HDTV because it's cheaper I want to game right next to my PC. :P But as far as being outdated I don't know. Here's the monitor I'm looking at... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009157

Just you the HDMI port. Not all moniters have dedicated HDMI ports and need adapters, but if it has a deticated port it'll work fine.

Just make sure it has HDPC surport, cause if it don't you'll just get a blank screen

if your not using audio through hdmi cable, then you will to setting the audio setting to use compossite cables. you will prob have to buy an adapter to use pc speakers.

Yes it does. If you switch the specs tab and look for it you'll find where it says that it does.

Correct. The audio output options are HDMI, Optical, and RCA (the red and white cables). If your speakers connect via a 3.5 mm (like how you connect to an iPod or Zune) then you will need an adapter.

HDCP doesn't matter for non Blue Ray things. All HDCP does is give you a no 1080p picture when you play Blue Ray movies. Sony made it so games don't hav this issue. All HDCP is a copy protection mechanism that the movie companies use because there afraid of piracy.

If you're connecting a monitor to the PS3 with HDMI you'll be able to give audio and video to the monitor because an HDMI cable can transmit both. Therefore, if you select HDMI audio on the PS3, sound will come out of the monitor's built in speakers. If the monitor does not have built in speakers but has a 3.5 mm jack (common with computer speakers), enabling HDMI audio on the PS3 and plugging your computer speakers into your monitor will give sound out of your speakers. If your sound system is higher quality it'd be best to connect it via optical directly to your PS3. In this case you'd connect an optical cable from the receiver the subwoofer is connected to to the optical slot on the back of the PS3 and enable optical audio on the PS3.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009157 Okay I just bought that monitor. It has a dedicated HDMI port. Now my question is.. how can I hear the game? I have two Acer computer speakers, no surround sound or anything yet. How would I hook this up next to the monitor/PS3 to hear the audio? Also I don't know if it matters but my PS3 will be on my desk right next to my PC/ current monitor.

The PlayStation 3 can output sound simultaneously from the HDMI OUT connector, the DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) connector, and the AV MULTI OUT connector.

This is done with the [Audio Multi-Output] option found in Settings icon (Settings) > Sound Settings icon (Sound Settings). Available with system software 3.00 or later.
* Off: Disable the multi-output feature.
* On: Enable the multi-output feature.

Audio output to connectors that are not selected in Settings icon (Settings) > Sound Settings icon (Sound Settings) > [Audio Output Settings] is downscaled to 2 channels.

I'm just going to say I hooked my PS3 to a non HDCP Screen and had no picture not even for the dash. You may be partly right but I will guarentee that you will be very unhappy buying a non HDCP monitor when you try and hook up your PS3, but whatever.

I use a HP 2309m HDMI with inbuilt speakers and they are pretty good but for even better sound I use my PC speakers I dont know what you mean by an adapter but I have connected my PS3 RCA and PC speakers with a Y-cabel.
