i want to buy a ps3. i really need your opinion in which i should choose, ps3 phat or ps3 slim. i don't really care about the third party os... and i heard a lot of the ps3 slim owners say that the ps3 slim is not bad if it is seen in person... 120 gb of hard drive will be come in handy for me as i don't think i will swap for another hdd for a 80 gb ps3... if the ps3 slim didn't have any serious problem with its hardware, should i buy the ps3 slim as i don't care to wait for another month?

Go and buy the slim- the functionality is the same and you get more hard drive space for the price.

Exactly...I own a first gen PS3 and I am SOOO Happy with it, but if it broke id probably get a slim just because the increased HDD space.

I don't get why there is any debate at all. Why would you have to wait another month? Do you not have any slims in your region yet? Because frankly, they two models are the same in terms of features and function. If you want something now, get the big PS3. If you can get the slim now then get that...itsnewer, more efficient with power, smaller, has more HDD space and yet still has all the exact same functions as the previous models. If I had to make a choice between the two sitting on the shelf, I'd easily grab a slim even though I think the fatter model is nicer looking. Who cares about looks anyway?

But if it comes down to getting the big model now or waiting for a slim...you really can't lose. Personally, I would wait for the slim because then you get a bigger HDD for the same price.

The phat has got a better quality Blu-ray drive but uses more power. That's all you need to think about.

Get the slim there is no reason to get the fat unless you prefer the looks or it is $50 cheaper to buy.

the slim was officially available september 1 and retailers had it before that so i dont think anyone is gonna have to wait at all.

I wouldn't get rid of my 60 gig phat PS3 for any other PS3 on the market. The slim just doesn't look as nice as the phat. Really there isn't a big difference in the overall size of the two in the end.

unless you want BC which 20/60 & early 80GB versions are the answers

but if you just want a ps3 that can play ps3 games and blu-ray, get the slim

it doesn't look bad at all as people commented, it looks really slick and sexy, looks way better than what's on the photos

and linux is probably what you're not gonna use a lot since there're no drivers to use RSX? (correct me if i'm wrong?)

so yea, you just better go with the slim, cheaper, more hard drive space, consume less powers and same old ps3 :P

I bought the fat 80gb PS3 over the slim 120gb PS3. Why you might ask??? Because the fat version is tried and tested and the slim is new and who knows what problems might arise.

You really should tell people why you think the fat has got a better blu-ray drive instead of leaving it open to interpretation. Isn't it just that the fat PS3 loads movies a second faster or something? Someone reading your post might actually think it's something important, which it isn't.

Yes, I tried and tested the fat version from June 2007 to August 2009 and in that time three of them died due to faulty blu-ray drives. That's why I've got a slim now. Opinion is no substitute for experience.

I would say get the slim unless you live in a secluded place that for some reason has a 60 gig still in stock.

I do apologise, I didn't realise I was not permitted to express an opinion without writing an essay. Well yes, the slim does load Blu-ray movies slower, 10 seconds in some cases. This does not matter to me, you obviously and many others for that matter. This whole thing just illustrates that there really isn't a difference between the phat and the slim and it doesn't really matter which one you get.

Apology accepted.
