Its up to Sony.  If sales continue to lag they may decide to do it.  But analysists are always just guessing.  I remember when some of them said the PSP would drop to $150 before the 2k6 Holidays.  Now at the end of march its still $200.

I think all this talk of a price cut is fueled by the "non-hardcore" gamer becoming restless and jealous of current PS3 owners. They want to believe that they are waiting for a reason. Just like those people who waited a year for their PS2 and saw a $100 price-cut. Oh man did they seem smart back then. They bought the machine when it was cheapest and just in time for MGS2 and Final Fantasy 10. I think the idea that history will repeat itself is some wishful thinking. Sony is subsidizing too much of the PS3's cost right now. the president of Sony has also said that people should not expect a price break any time soon. It makes sense to me that Sony would count on Little Big Planet, Home, and some other exclusive games to carry them through the 2007 X-mas season without a price drop.

Another great point. What drives price cuts, in ANY business, is stale inventory. As long as sales keep up with production, there will be no price cut.

It might be you living under the rock buddy.  Did you look at the US console sales for feb?  wii 300k+ xbox 360 200k+  ps3 100k+.  When you are being outsold almost 3 to 1 and 2 to 1 by your competitors I would consider that sluggish.  Not to mention sales on the ps3 dropped almost 50% in Febuary compared to January.  Dont believe it? Go look up the info rock boy.....  http://www.gamespot.com/news/6167512.html

in all do respect i can go anywhere in my state and buy a PS3 at any given time. You can also buy them off the internet. Looks to me like the supply is pretty steady.. For example I bought my playstation last night at wal-mart and they had several others

Phil Harrison President of SCEW has stated himself, the PS3 is doing very well, and he also said Sony full support what Nintendo are doing, (nothing about MS) now there hasnt been a single, post, saying he is lieing, and ya know what, he isnt, also, he said Sony is playing it by years, not months through its launch, this happened with the PS2, (HeADLINE PS2 isnt SELLING!!)

As much as I want to see as many PS3's flood the planet as possible, I'd be a little mad if they lowered it.. I have not gotten my full money's worth yet.

Well thats good news if you live in Japan.  Then we just have a failure to communicate.  However if you live in the US(the biggest market for videogames) I think we can both agree your wrong.  There is absolutely no shortage of supply after being in production for 7 months......

sales arent really lagging as much as you think , you are prolly compairing it to the sales of a certain cheap system. but they will prolly do this price drop in october if microsoft releases a new xbox 360 for the holidays

As long as Sony doesn't go the way of Sega it's all good. I could care less how much they lose on the hardware so long as it's no so much that the PS3 gets abandoned.

Yeah there is simply no denying itk, the PS3 is not selling well in North America and I think for this reason a price cut is a real possibility soon. Think about it, all the hardest of hardcore gamers willilng to fork over the cash alreayd bought the Xbox 360 and the PS3 at launch. That leaves the next segment, the enthusiast or casual gamer. They ain't gonna pay this much.

Ok, every one that is arguing about there being a shortage of PS3 and the others saying there are tons on the store shelves were you live... YOU ARE BOTH RIGHT QUIT ARGUING! From what I've seen (and from what I've heard) you can find them a bit easier than you used to, but sometimes they still sell out. Here's my example: I went to BestBuy 4 days in a row (I was buy some different movies/cds and then had to return something). On the first 3 days, yes there were plenty of PS3's (like 8 of them sitting there). But surprisingly they were all gone on the fourth. A week later they had plenty more and you could easily find one. I've noticed the same thing at other stores. So it seems like they sell out their inventory every once and awhile, but then get a bunch more. SO BOTH SIDES ARE RIGHT! It just depends on where you live and luck on which day you go to the store. OK, can we all get along. :P
