I read that sony moved up prodction of blu-ray and making it cheaper?

it was stated that maybe a $100 price cut was possible by christmas!:D

what would a $499 ps3 do to the current gaming market?

Possibly. It just depends on the games that come out, how well the PS3 is currently doing, and the competitors.

yes, due to the fact that they're getting cheaper to make, thanks to software emulation instead of installign the emotion engine, and them switching to the 65nm processors. and of course like all technology more demand means its cheaper because they can' make them in more bulk.

sounds like a possiblity, new technology drops in price quickly in the beginnig. for example HDTV are getting much cheaper! I think this would be huge for ps3 becuase the 360 elite is $479 (no HD movie playback) Ps3 at 499 would jump up sales with combination of new games!

i also read that by yr's end many good hdtv's prices could go down A LOT. but i can't afford one/don't need one now so ya hehe

A price cut is a very good thing for sony, the only problem is if they drop it a hundred, then micrsoft will certainly match it.

The report stating this was speculating on price and time so dont expect anything to happen anytime soon.

I believe that sony still takes a substantial loss for every PS3 sold, so they probably won't pass the savings onto consumers just yet, they need to recoup losses.
