Personally when i saw the price drop of the ps3 i thought cool i might get one then when i found out that they had taken away some of the hardware that was inside i thought to my self it not a big enough price drop for the ps3 to sell many consoles to the causal gamer !

Some fan boys might argue that the ps3is much better console in terms of power and may be it is ! but this wont matter a god dam thing to the causal gamer or young family who are looking at buying a next gen console at Christmas and the wii figures has proved this ! When they look to buy a 360 or a ps3 most of them will go for the 360 because of it cheaper price and the way Microsoft have build up hype for there games, nearly everyone i know has heard of halo 3 but when i ask them have they heard anything about mgs4 they all shake there heads , marketing for the ps3 games are nearly non existence or any of its services!

If sony really wanted to sell many consoles they would have been marketing there console a lot more and helping to build up the hype of mgs4 to get people excited about the ps3!

Also I think they should of made the 40 gb ps3 around what the Premium360 is and the 60 or 80 gb ps3 around 300 quid and maybe they should of kept the 20gb ps3 and made that really cheap !

Also one more thing why have they taken away the ps3 albity to play ps2 games on the cheaper version?

Since the people who would be buying it would have huge amounts of ps2 games.

Thanks

I know that my spelling is not great or my gammer!

What is going to get the "casual gamer" on board. Is Blu-ray winning the movie war. Once people realize Blu-ray is the future of disk based media the PS3 will sell like crazy. I know tons of people literally sitting on the fence to see what happens. If they knew for sure Blu-ray was going to win they would buy a PS3 in a heartbeat. Things like Singstar, Little Big Planet, Home, etc will also help the casual gamer make the jump.

Who do you consider a casual gamer?

Are the 100,000+ people that own the PS2 that haven't jumped into the new generation of gaming yet considered casual gamers?

If they are considered "casual" then yes it is low enough.

If casual means people that have never bought a game system before and want to try one out then no its not enough of a price break.

I think this is a great price for those that know the PS brand and were waiting for the price to come down.

it's just 2 usb ports less and and it doesn't read memory stick cards, i don't see the big deal in here, i bet 90% of ps3 users never used the memory card slots.

2 usb is enough, if someone wants more, just buy a usb device that add more usb ports, it's very cheap.

it has wifi, so for 399.99, imo it is a very good deal.

i didn't want to talk about 360, but you refered it in your post so i'll be forced to.

you have a 360 pro for 350$/euros , without wifi, without blue ray, with just 20gb hard disk that is not even upgradable.

go check online how much microsoft asks for their official wifi adadpter, it's around 80-90$, just that.

How the 40gb model is not a good deal?

well about the price tag, if the 40gb model was priced like 360 pro, sony would be loosing economicaly, the ps3 cost of production is much higher than a 360.

and that's why wii sells so much, the casual gamer goes for wii because it's only 250$/euros and it has what the casual gamers ask for : fun factor :P

*sigh* Sony cant be humble enough to just reduce the price. They had to strip it too. I'm really glad I got the 60 GB when I did.

price down is well and good but for my part it could be that high as long as i freaking get the backwards compatability in the same maschine. sony have to get their act going good cuz one big selling factor for the ps2 was that u could play all the REALY GOOD ps1 games on it. If sony drop the backward comp. they almost lost me as a buyer. Then the only thing that will get me to get a ps3 is gran turismo 5 and mgs4. Though it will be good selling points i could get on with my life without them. and i will go to the store and get me a 360 instead. in this stage they do have more good games than the ps3. (gears of war, halo3, forza 2, projectgotham racing) just to mention some!!!

GET A GRIP SONY!!!!!

I bought my 360 on launch day I bought 4 controlers and a couple of games GOW was incredible and RB6 is a great game too. Problem was that my 360 did the 3 red lights (ring of death) on me with 3 different consoles 2 of which were replacements by Microsoft. So I sold my CrapBox the 360 is majorly flawed. So with my $ I bought a PS3 a few weeks after launch for $599.00 Hands down the PS3 is the better of the two consoles and it runs relatively silent compared to the 360 and is no where near as hot either.

Now while I had my 360 I was totally satisfied with it as long aas it was running. I recently played Halo 3 at my friends on his 57" DLP 1080P tv and all I can say is been there done that, graphics are well. . . next gen but nothing great, Warhawk looks and plays better much better.

As long as M$ shells out cash for commercials air time over radio and internet and Certain internet game review sites have their heads so far up M$ Things won't change. " I can take a crap in box and stamp a 100% Guarantee on it, " Tommy Boy, It is still crap. Why is it that Gamespot has never wrote aan article on how M$ has never fixed its main issue with overheating 360's? Yet every step of Sony is scrutinized?

All I Know is I am an avid gamer, dont really care what console, it just pisses me of to see M$ making crap and Game Review Sites turning their heads.

Back to the thread; $599 is a deal $499 even better I have a large 1080p HDTV and a nice 7.1 A/V reciever w/ HDMI 1.3 and the PS3 is the perfect piece for my home theater on a budget. PSN is free and works great what are people waitn for get a PS3.

GTG gonna play Jeapordy on PC.

dude i kinda thought the same way u did but u gotta think ur getting a next gen movie player with the ps3. if u want to play the ps2/ps1 games just go buy a 60 gig. i did and i got a person who worked at walmart to get me 10% of my ps3 and it cost me 471 bucks after taxes. so for less then 50 bucks more i get full backwards and 20 more gigs of hard drive.

You gotta keep in mind that sony was losing money on the other versions and everyone complained about the price. So to appease the gamers that wanted the next gen experience but didn't have enough money to shell out for the other models they cut back. But if you think about it they cut back only in areas that wouldn't be a permanent handicap for the next gen games. Hard drives can be upgraded when you have the money and not many people really use card readers.

This way the company can still make money while allowing everyone the ability to jump into next gen gaming. BC would be nice but hey you get what you pay for. If you are the kinda person that still has a bunch of their ps2 games more than likely you have your ps2 still cause you have been playing it up till now. I still have all the systems that i intend to play again. If i don't want one i wouldn't sell the system and keep the games. The only reason i would do that is if i knew for sure i wanted a bc ps3 and i could trade in my ps2 towards one.

People like to throw around the term "casual gamer" but nobody really defines it. To me the "casual gamer" is someone who plays games on Pogo or Yahoo games at the office during their lunch hour. Those people aren't going to spend $400 or even $300 on a game console. They already play games on their computers so why do they need to spend MORE money? So those people might be lost for good.

being humble never made a company as big as sony is. it's not about being humble, it's about making money.
