When I start up my PS3 it has recently (in the last 3 or 4 weeks) started taking longer and longer to go from the SCE screen with the wavy line into the XMB. It used to take less than a second to go into the XMB after the SCE icon disappeared, now it take 2,3,4 seconds. I wouldn't really be concerned but my last PS3 was doing this and then it screwed up and it would just stay on the start-up screen and never go off of it no matter what I did.

Is this normal and is there a fix to it?

I have about 60 GB worth of videos, demoes, installs, etc on my PS3, and I have an external Hard Drive hooked up to it.

Thats it then. The more space you take from the memory and the larger number of files you have in the memory, requires the system to take few seconds to load them to you. remember, you are not having your files in a closet, its a memory.. so don't worry about letting it remember for few seconds what to load :P

I've had a lot of data taken up for a while but it's only recently taken longer to boot up. Also I recently cleaned up around 20 GB worth of data and I've noticed no change.

Hmmm, let me see :) Did you buy a new game that required an installment/installation before playing it in the last 3-4 weeks?

I've bought a few games recently but it just seems to be random; it doesn't seem to go faster after I delete some things or slower after I install some games/download demoes and videos.

I can only come with this option if you have or haven't installed anything from any game: Backup all your data to an external HDD and then do a full-format to your whole system and you will end up having a clean internal HDD. and this is the only cure for everything that occurs if there is any issue from the System Software. If the problem continues, this could be a Hardware issue and it does require cleaning from dust and fixing damaged internal machine parts... I hope that I helped...

yeah that would seem to be a possible issue. i had a few older vids on my system and i could tell that it seemed slower.
