So I already own a 360 but am more of a fan of the PS games.

Is it reliable? Or is it going to break down on me if I get one? Is pretty much my question. I don't want to pay all that money and have it blow up after a week.

it shouldn't break down, but if it does, Sony covers you with a 1 year warranty, so don't worry about it, things break, things get fixed, it's the way of the world

Sony only makes quality machines. There have only been a hand full of people that I have heard with problems. I have had my PS3 since the first of feb. and I have had it on 24/7 since with absolutely no problems.

Through its first 5 months it has been nothing but solid.  At this point in the other next gen console's life there were already tons of complaints day after day about hardware failures after 5 months.  I know, I own one (which died 2 weeks ago) and was there to see it on their forums.  There has been no such reaction on the ps3 forums.  Mostly questions about how to get something to work properly or incompatibility with other products.

yea mine has had no problems and i've had it since a week after launch. froze once while exiting the lemmings demo (wtf?) but my roommate bought a 360 a few days ago and 2 hours out of the box, 'Disk Read Error' pops up. I tried to hold my tongue as best i could...

Yeah, I remember the PS2 thing, infact I had one that did it. That's why I'm asking this question. But if they have a warranty... then I'll probably get one. My 360 seems to be running... but making some funny sounds. But 360 seems more of a FPS console then anything, and I prefer my FPS's on my comp. So I'll probably pick up a PS3. Thanks for the responds!

its safe to say that the ps3 is one of the most reliable systems on the market your 360 will probably break down 3 times before ur ps3 breaks down once

I use my PS3 everyday and have had no problems.  I bought mine about a week after it's release in the US.  I play dvd's, PS2 games, PS3 games, and I have put season 1-7 of South Park on the hard drive which gets played almost everyday.  No issues at all.

Well, I have a 360 and it's the second one I got.  The first one died within 30 days and my local store (Fred Meyer) exchanged it on the spot without a problem.

My PS3 has been rock-solid - and it dang well should be for the 600 dollar price tag!

You have to convert them to a format the PS3 will play (i.e. H.264 Video w/ ACC audio aka MPEG-4/AVC). Put the videos on a flash drive in a folder called VIDEO (you have to create this folder).  Then connect the flash drive to the USB port or memory ports on the PS3 (you can also use an external HDD).  Under Videos you will see your storage device.  Go to your video (you will see nothing if your video is not compatable), and press triangle to bring up options.  Select Copy.  Check off the videos you want to copy to the HDD and press OK.  The PS3 will then copy the videos to your HDD.

The PS3 is A LOT more reliable than the 360. That machine is built terribly.

Or just install linux and a media player.

I have a question... If you install YDL, do your game saves get erased when partitioning the HDD?

The PS1 and PS2 had numerous problems. I owned about 3 PS1s until i got tired and just played with it upside down.

I have zero problems with mine. Also there have been people who left theirs on for months at a time and they say it still runs strong.
