I would argue that if there is a price drop sale won't increase as much as people think it would if there is a plain old vanilla price drop.
People complaining about price are missing the point of the system itself. A price drop didn't help the PS2, GAMES did. As soon as Gran Turismo 3 came out, sale went through the roof.
The first phase of ANY price reduction is a "pack in" it or repackaging scheme. When the PSP was repackaged with a UMD movie and so on, sales went up. When they removed the memory card and what not, sales went up. Remember The PSP has been out for two years and had a 20 mil. install base BEFORE the current price drop.
The PS3 has already seen "repackaging", so a price drop is not likely to happen until after the next fiscal calender ( 3 or 4/08 )
