I am looking to getting a new slim as a game/Blu-ray station. How does the blu-ray side of the PS3(video/sound quality) compare to the most recent crop of blu-ray players out there. What has been ur experiences with the player?

Thanks,

Mike

Never seen a blu-ray on anything other than my PS3 but it's fantastic on my Samsung LE32. I don't think having a different player makes a massive difference. Aslong as you have a HD tv and HDMI cable should be fine.

The PS3 is the best & fastest blu-ray player out there + its the only one thats firmware upgradeable, which is a good thing. And because it has a GUI (the XMB) its pretty easy to set up too.(video/sound quality)

A lot of Blu-Ray players out there also have firmware updates, not just the PS3.

The PS3 in general has made an excellent BD player for me. With some stand-alone players, you actually get a loading screen when the disc is starting up. I almost never see that screen with my PS3 due to the extra CPU power it has over a stand-alone. Plus, using optical audio the PS3 has amazing audio quality as well. I've been very impressed and will be buying a slim soon to have a 2nd BD player in the house.

Quality wise it'll be excellent except when it comes to the noise coming from the system, it will be the noisiest of the bunch.

It's a good player but it is noisy and you need a separate dedicated remote or your DS3 for it to work.

PS3's are still considered near the top and are considered future proof they will always be able to be updated and they dont have load times.

The PS3 is one of the best Blu-Ray players out and with firmware updates it can stay that way.

The PS3 is about as good as it gets for Blu-ray video playback. You have nothing to worry about in that regard.

It's pretty up high up there and the new Slim supports new audio formats and bidirectional HDMI. The HDD and good processing power coupled with upgradable firmware insure that you will always have a great Blue Ray player.
