I have a ps3 slim, i do love it, but when i brought it people alwats told me the ps3 slim was better in everyway then the fats. But i went to a friends house the other day and it was loading up the blacks op campaign from the start, and no noise at all from the disc drive, fan as louder but apart from that not as near enough as annyoing the disc drive sound.
So i went home that evening and did the same started the black ops campaign from start and i could hear the disc drive going click click click for ages, and i though is my ps3 slim defect i mean the slims are suippose to be quieter right lol.
So everytime i play a game im always looking out for the loading nosies. its at its worst when loading a saved game off resistance 2, i asked my mate to look out for it on his resistance game and nope no constant click click click, its a night mare during late night gaming on the slims.
Whats your opinions on this?

When it is loading a game pick it up and shake it around a bit, that will make the disc spin faster and load a lot quicker. When the fan is really picking up speed it's just because a wire has gotten loose from the air and it can't detect the internal temp. Smack it really hard on the top of the system. That will make the wire settle in and the fans should stop...

Well there's your problem... You're specifically looking for these noises which means you concentrate on them and they seem louder, oh and mine doesn't make this click click noise from the disc drive so maybe you have a slightly defective one as i had a phat and slim at the same time and side by side the slim is significantly quieter than the phat.

Could you post a video with these clicking sounds? Im not sure what you mean. But expect a slim model to get louder and louder with each month. The fan and the HDD will be louder a bit but its nothing to worry about.

I find that the Slim is quieter than my original PS3 but it also runs much hotter too. Must be something to do with the fans.

The clicking noise that everyone is talking about is the sound of the metal inside the slim expanding because of the heat. After the console is off the plates will often click back to their original state. I have a slim and it does get somewhat loud. It isn't extremely quiet either, as while playing a game you can still hear noise coming from it, but I guess that's normal.

When it is loading a game pick it up and shake it around a bit, that will make the disc spin faster and load a lot quicker. When the fan is really picking up speed it's just because a wire has gotten loose from the air and it can't detect the internal temp. Smack it really hard on the top of the system. That will make the wire settle in and the fans should stop...Nuck81

And when it starts to emit too much heat, place a thermal ice pack near the back of the console to keep it cool

I'd had a big PS3, now I have slim one. The slim one does have a humming sound sometimes, I'd say it's a little bit louder than my previous system but I don't think it's a big deal.

wow, someone brings a problem and your no help at all. it would of been better for you too not log in at all. Good advice would of been, maybe try cleaning out your system by vacume or can of air. hold can upright spray into blue ray drive maybe there is dust on your laser, or, make sure your disc is free from fingerprints so the laser can read it better. hopefully no one take the advise to shake or slap system. this would most likely break there investment.

I just picked up the PS3 2501A and it is so quite I can not hear it, but if I place my head just above it I then can hardly hear it running even when playing a game.

Hey man, don't go criticizing unless you've walked a mile in someone's shoes. For your info my PS3 slim was doing the same crap noises & the"shake then smack" repair worked on mine. Unless you work for SONY (doubt it), I don't think you should be qualifying different repair methods.
