My 60gb ps3 recentely got the YLOD and im getting it fixed from a shop right now.

I was wondering should i trade it in for a slim or an 80gb with backwards compatibility.

I dont know about the slim right now since its new and it it might have some issues right now

Well, personally I would consider this choice too, tha fat 80gb, is shiny and (my opinion) better looking. It uses a some more energy but has ps/ps2 backwards compatibilty if im right. The slim, well, has 120gb, which is a big plus, and well... If i would buy one now, i would go for the slim... I think, because of the Harddrive, but i do have a 2.5inch 250gb HD in my fat-PS3 so i think that's the best option, buy a old one and put in a big HD immediately.

Get a Phat one and jam a 500 GB HDD in that bad boy. You'll be set for the whole gen :)
