Are there any major differences other than being slim and maybe a bigger HDD ?

Worth an upgrade or just as overhyped as a PSP GO ?

why would anyone would ever want to change their consoles for a smaller/bigger one? like the rumors from the PS2 slim "the ps2 slim has no internal fan, if you play for more than 5 hours the console overheats and gets broken!" bs, my cousin had PS2 slim and he played for 18 hours straight and he didnt had the external fan and nothing happened to the PS2, its still there alive and kicking. same for the ps3, no actual reason to buy it if you already have a "fat" ps3. like this stupid kid in my bus....the kid says "IM GONNA SELL MY PS2 SLIM TO GET A REGULAR PS2!!!!!" then I ask him "omg why would you do such an stupid thing?" he says "BECAUSE THE BIG PS2 DOES HAVE A FAN AND THE PS2 SLIM DOESN'T, AND I COULD PLAY FOR MORE HOURS!!!!" and his mom doesn't even let him to get over 2 hours so what is he worrying about??? no, dont switch your big ps3 for a slim, period

I bought a slim to take over duties for my (still good) 60gb model. The move process is a huge pain though. System backup won't copy game install/patch data, DLC, or PSN games to a new ps3 system, plus a bunch of your games probably have locked saves. Music, pictures, unlocked saves, and trophies once you login to PSN will be carried over though. All I seem to have lost (well not lost, just not copyable) was my Demon Souls save and NFS Shift save. I'm getting sent overseas, and I didn't want to risk my heavy and impossible to replace launch model. The upside is its alot lighter and shorter, plus its dang near silent and much cooler. My 60gb model would heat up the tv stand, can barely feel heat on the slim.

Last I checked you cant upgrade to something if the second item is the exact same thing. If you want a hdd upgrade its cheaper to just buy another hdd than another console.

I got a Slim (originally had a "phat"), and I love it. I think it's better looking than the original (no more finger prints, yay!!!) and it's abit quiter. Also uses less power. All good!

i've heard the blu-ray drive loads movies slower on the PS3 slim, you can't install linux OS on the PS3 slim and the touch on/off/eject button has been replaced with an actual button. other than those 3 thing i don't know of any other differences other than HDD sizes

What's with all this Slim hate? I sold my 60GB on Craigslist to help me get the Slim because I had YLOD on a previous system. It would only be a matter of time before the current one I had died on me as well. The Slim is much better compared to the "classic" and anyone who says differently is fooling themselves. About the only thing the original has that the slim doesn't is Other OS support, which I dont care about. Other than that, the slim beats the crap out of the old models. Say all you want that your "Phat" PS3 is still working fine, eventually it'll get YLOD too. Especially if you own one of the earlier models like I did.

The Slim won't play PS2 games, and sadly, neither will my "fat" PS3 (a late release model).

Otherwise, I'll stick with my "fat" PS3 I've had since January (no major problems so far).

Pretty much as overhyped as the PSP Go. Yes, it's slimmer, and it draws less power. But it's also less powerful, especially compared to the launch 20/60GB models. It also inexplicably removed the "install other OS" functionality so that you could install Linux on the thing. I was also made to understand that because of the die shrink for making the Cell and RSX in the slim, it turns out that it is slower on some tasks than the original, 'fat'(ter) PS3's but can be faster than others. But the only place I'd heard or found anything about this was on a duellinganalogs comic strip, so I honestly don't know how true that is.
