Has anyone experienced a power system failure with their PS3 Slim? I have the CECH-2001A 120GB model, and for the past month, my system will only remain powered on for 30 seconds-15minutes worth of gameplay, during which time the system will crash (loses power, I have to unplug and replug the system back in to gain button functionality again). Has anyone else had this problem and sent their system in to Sony? I'm worried about receiving a refurb unit... My luck that I'm out of warranty too... blast!

I found this repair video, but opening up the PS3 on my own sounds shady... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ENdoxIVshM

it looks like it wouldnt be very tough to do. just opening the case, swapping with a different power supply, and putting the screws back in

Nope, haven't heard of this problem before. Sucks that it happened after the warranty though.

For the first reason, that might just be because the battery is really bad. The second is, probably, your laptop turning off to prevent itself from overheating.

Is your PS3 still under warranty? If so the only option is to send it back. Getting a refurb is no big problem. At least you know it works. I have gotten refurb PC hardware back without a problem. If your PS3 isn't under warranty I'd look at that YouTube video. Doesn't look too difficult at all. Also, is your PS3 Slim mounted vertically or just laying flat?

Unfortunately it is out of warranty. I keep it in an open well ventilated area lying flat... sounds like a faulty power system unit, but curious if anyone else has experienced this - i bought the first gen of the PS3 slim.

hey dude i don't know if this is like your problem but i got a same problem today. i put assassins creed brotherhood disc in then i went to the multiplayer menu i clicked then the ps3 shuts down, i try to turn it on then the green light turn for a sec and it shuts down again without any red light or anything. the disc is still inside the ps3. i have ps3 slim 120 gb btw. i had been playing the previews days for like 6 hours and then my brother was playing after me. is this kinda an overheat problem or a power failure?? i don't know whats the problem and i don't know what to do. i just answered to let you know that your not the only one that has a similar problem to this. if someone knows what to do or if you have fixed it then tell me pls cause i don't know if its worth it to send it back to sony.

I have the Slim (2009) 250GB one. Only had power problem once while playing Assassins Creed Brotherhood (maybe Revelations dont remember exactly), it suddenly turned off after clicking on Multiplayer. What i usually do every week is use a vacuum cleaner and pass it near the back on the grills on the PS3. But during that time it has been over a month since i lasted cleaned it, so i tried restarting it everything is normal. Yet the next day i used the vacuum cleaner. Also i remember that helping a user here too, but forgot the situation.
