So I bought another PS3 for a bigger hard drive capacity, but when I plug it in (just on standby mode) theres a high pitched noise comng from the back (just by the serial number). Now this is where the transformer would be, and my other slim makes the same noise only you have to strain to hear it with your ear pressed against it which is why I'm worried about this one as its much louder. Its nothing compared to the early xbox 360s, but I don't want their to be some sort of electrical fault. Has anyone else got a similar problem?

Bring it back right away. That shouldn't be there. It could be a psu issue. On another note: Why did you buy a new ps3 just to upgrade your hd? :D

yea in stand by mod it should be silent. unless you just got done playing, wich in that case the ps3's plastic case can make cracking, creeking or poping sounds as the plastic cools.but you shouldnt hear any other kind of noises also just in case you did not know, you dont need to buy another ps3 just for a bigger HD, you can use a standered laptop HDD. you can find 350gig hdds very cheap, its simple to install ect.

That does not sound good. Your now PS3 slim should not be making any noise. I have a PS3 320GB Slim 3000B series. It is quiet. Your slim may have a hardware fault. Take it back and get another one.
