Hi. My phat PS3 recently is going to hell after more than 2 years and I'm going to buy the slim one. I'm very, and I mean very concerned about its ventilation and heating issues, compared to the phat. From what I see it has less space for the hot air to come out, but I also know that it consumes less power.

So my main question is... is it cooler? Is it more reliable than the old model? Thanks.

Never used the "phat" one but i just picked up a slim verison 120gb model and everything is going smooth thus far. I play quite often and sometimes @ night i can have gaming sessions that last upward of 4-5 hours long. The system never gets "hot", it does get a lil warm on top of it but that is to be expected of any console you have on for 5 hours straight.

I upgraded from my 80GB to the Slim on launch day and I have had no problems whatsoever. It gets warm but not hot and ventilates fine. The fan will get a tad bit loud on processor intensive games like Uncharted 2 or God of War III, but still pales in comparison to the 360's 747 jet turbines. Go buy one you'll be fine.

Yea-The Slims run cooler and quieter cos its chips are smaller and use less power than the Phat models. The fan outlets are on rear of the Slim console so just remember not to push it too close to a wall or other obstruction so that it has airspace at rear.

I've owned a 60Gb and 80GB,but my 120GB Slim is my favourite-Much more compact too.

You will notice the difference in decibles when you put in and eject games. but there are no heating issues, I have played GOW3 10 hours straight and it was all gravy.
