Hi

Have just bought my first ps3 and have set it up to my LG RZ26LZ55 tv with a HDMI DVI cable, for the video stream, and am using the ps3 supplied cable for the sound.

But there isnt any sound, is anybody able to tell me what I am doing wrong PLEASE !

I have set the sound settings in the ps3 menu to the appropriate feeds, and I have plugged just the red and white plugs into the tv and not the yellow. And i've spent ages looking for the answer online, could anybody shed any light please, thankyou

Phil

connect the audio via the toslink(optical) audio cable to your tv instead of the av cable

if the tv has a dvi connector it may just have the optical audio in as well,although i would think it should have hdmi support as well.

Maybe you have already tried this but hey sometimes the answer is so close you can't see it.

Have you set your audio output settings correctly. Because as far as I know when you plug the PS3 with an HDMI cable, the system automatically selects HDMI for the audio output. Please confirm that the setting for audio output is correct (on your PS3)

i will try and get a photo up but for now i can explain it, on the tvs left hand side on the back there are audio plugs labled r and l with audio wriiten beneath (where i'm plugging the cable that came with the ps3 in, into the same colours red to red and white to white. Then there is 3 component plugs, by plugs i mean a hole that you can plug a single pin thing in, labled component and pr pb and y, followed by a s video socket

Well then there are no apparent problems for me. The last thing you could do though, hold down the power button on your PS3 for like 5 seconds you will hear some beeps. This resets your settings. Then you might be able to get sound.

UGH, stop using the HDMI and simply use the component plugs. its a small enough tv that the picture wont look any different. the reason its not working is because your trying to use the HDMI for video and the composite for audio. basically you're trying to use 2 different ports on the tv. basically you are getting sound, its just coming in on a different channel. trying switching your tv to input 1 or whatever it called them. you'll probably have no picture and only sound. and HDMI-dvi cable only supports video. basically if you spent any large ammount of money on this cable it was a big mistake.

so go buy yourself and component cable and problem solved. I hope what i said above is understandable

sorry i thaught of something that may help you

HDMI-DVI cable------------tv

Av audio cable-------------tv input ch 1/2/3(you never specified which plug you used)

thats your current setup from what you sayso whats happeneing is your'e sending you audio to a different input channel on the tv. 1 of the 3 you said you have. if you switched your tv to that channel, you would find that you have no video and only audio. the setup you need to use

Component RGB----------tv input ch 1/2/3

AV audio-------------------tv input ch 1/2/3(make sure it matches the video input)

that will get you picture and audio on the same channel

well your tv has 3 input like you said. component being the red, green and blue colored inputs. and audio being red and white. you can get a component cable for the ps3 for pretty cheap from wall mart. you should also know that the ps2 component cable also works on the ps3. the only difference being the ps2 cable aren't very well shielded but judging from your current setup that doesn't matter.

from what you say your tv looks like this on the back

audio ||component

1 R W ||B G R

2 R W ||B G R

3 R W ||B G R

or something along those lines, that is if that little thing turned out properly. the letters stand for the color of the plug you would need.

all you need to do is match the colors basically. also the 2 reds will ALWAYS be on oposite sides of the cable. the one right beside the white cable will always be the audio. also make sure you use the same input for both video and audio otherwise you'll end up with the same issue you have now. unfortunatly i dont know if you have anything else plugged in so it'll be up to you to match the numbers and colors correctly

If its running over DVI it must be in PC mode, which means audio will be in PC mode 2, so audio *SHOULD* go through a 3.5mm audio jack...you could get a phono to 3.5mm jack...

he's better off simply getting a component cable. although you're right he could get one of those phono - 3.5 mm jacks(i actually think i have a few of those lyig around). but i dont think his tv supports 1080p so he doesn't need the DVI anyways. and if he uses the dvi meathod then he has more cables comming off the back so it doesn't look as clean, which i presonally cant handle. the only cables you see on my setup are the speaker wires comming off the back of the reciever. and thats only because i had no way of hiding them.

But HDMI is generally sharper and better audio...Digital > Analogue...
